my step father has an iron defficency, he has been having stomach pains for the past couple months. they are sharp pains, kind of liek gas pains, located at the very top of his stomach. they come and go, sometimes occuring every day, and sometimes they wont return until the next week. he also has a low red blood cell count, was previously on plavix and has had a stent put in his heart. he has an appointment with a doc. but they can get him in for a few months, plus money is a factor. if anyone is familar with this, or knows anything that might lead us in a direction, please let us know.

Hi Jeff

If he does a 7 day cleanse would be beneficial (ideally a colon cleanse). Most of all are issues start with the colon. Must remove the toxins from the colon, so they dont get in the blood and cause illness and disease. Here are some steps to do

a) Drink a gallon of distilled water a day
b) Eat organic fruits and vegetables (prefably juice them). Carrot, celery, and beets are great iron providers.
C) Use a colon cleansing program with herbs (not laxatives = manmade chemicals)
d) get some exercise and a massage to help relieve stress

Best of health to both to you

Hmmm... He is iron deficient and has stomach pains. Does he by chance also have dark (possible "tarry") stools? If he is low on iron , a low red blood cell count and has stomach pains, I would be concerned about an internal gastrointestinal bleed. It would cause dark stools and explain the iron deficiency and low CBC. Do these pains often occur when he has fasted for awhile and then go away after eating something? This could indicate that the stomach is involved and that he could possibly have a stomach ulcer.

I would refer him to a free clinic and have them test his stool for blood. If it is a bleed then this needs to be treated ASAP or he could bleed out internally.

I am concerned about his dropping the plavix. Did he by chance have a bare metal or drug eluding stent put in his heart? How long ago did this happen? It is was recently (within a few years) it was more likely a drug eluding stent. It has recently come to light that people with these stents (while still regarded better than bare metal at remaing patent for longer periods of time) are more at risk for blood clots that could cause strokes or a myocardial infarction (heart attack) and should continue plavix for possibly years. I know this sucks because Plavix is pretty expensive.

iron deficiency plus low red blood cell count almost all the time is an indicator of internal bleeding, for the hole history he may have a peptic ulcer, ask him is his stool looks dark sometimes, if that is the case he have to go to the gastroenterologist and he is gonna do and endoscopy to see were the problem is, i know that the money is a big problem but is better and cheaper to treat this now than keep waiting until it is too advanced. good luck

Sounds like acid reflux or gastritis. Is the pain between the two sides of the rib cage. If so, Goggle acid reflux or gastritis. Pretty easily treatable conditions.

Only other suggestion, without being able to talk to you, is to check for potential side effects from medications your step-father is currently taking.
