Alright so this semester I'm taking TONS of courses and sadly the only way they could fit it is to give me lunch every other day. So I was wondering if any of you guys have any quick cheap recipies? The thing is it kinda has to withstand being in my backpack for about I would say 4 hours. Any ideas would be great!

manderson: My orchestra teacher has no problem letting people eat in classes. Yeah my school is pretty sucky so thank gawd I'm getting out this year!
Thanks erm...Jeff Hardy Fan? But I can't live off chips and such.
I'll have to experiment around with all these different ideas. :)

My favorite vegetarian take-with-me lunch is the veggie sandwich. You can also easily make this into a wrap, especially if you have alot of books in the backpack. For the sandwich, I use whole grain or whole wheat bread. I use barely any mayo or you can use Italian salad dressing (lightly), then I use avocado (great source of protein), cucumber, alfalfa sprouts, and tomato. Add a little salt and pepper if you like and there you go. Some other options: shredded carrots, young bean sprouts, or if you can find it, tofu chicken salad (our Health Food Store sells it and my husband can't tell the difference, in fact, he loves it.) Another take with you vegetarian lunch, Babaganoush or hummus and pita chips. You can find a good recipe at the Food TV website, for pita chips just cut up some pita bread into little triangles and bake for 8-10 minutes at 350. Pita chips get crispy, stay fresh in an air-tight container for months, and don't get soggy in whatever dip you make. Are you not permitted to eat in any of your classes? i don't see how a HS could deprive a student of a lunch break.
If you can eat in any class, take what you would normally take as a veg. If not, I would think a simple falafel sandwich would last for 4+ hours without refrigeration. Anything that's all veggies or including mayonnaise or other sauces will NOT.
Or, make a good veggie soup or stew and keep it in a thermos so you don't even have to worry about temperature. Most fruits keep pretty well for 4 hours, if you want to take an apple or orange as a side.
Another option is to carry a small lunch bag with cooler bags inside it if you're taking something that needs to be cold.

Pretty much any kind of finger food in the snack isle. Fruit roll ups, snack size boxes of raisins, fruit, PBJ sandwiches, yogurt ( I know from experience it will keep in a backpack for a few hrs), tofurky jerky, pretzles (good with the individual serving size Jif PB which come in 6 packs), celery sticks, baby carrots with 1serving dressing, granola bars, Chunks-O-Energy I've only found in bulk at health food store. Indiviual size anything fruit, pudding, Jell-O, mac n cheese, cheese raviolis (don't really need to be heated, I've eaten cold at school many times), leftover pizza. These are a few, I could go on but you get the idea.

At work, I live on granola bars (crunchy and soft!), pb and j sandwiches, fruit, dried fruit, chocolate, ect. Aldi's has all this stuff pretty reasonably priced. I'm not vegetarian, but I just prefer to eat like that. Also, a quick meal: one cup cooked white rice, 1/2 cup salsa, 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese. Heat and eat. Yum!

Pasta Salad with siced tomatoes, cukes and bell peppers in a Italian dressing

Avacado, tomatoes, onion and drained salsa in a wrap.

Peanut butter and Jelly

Bean Salad

BLT using vegetarian bacon

Veggie delight like Subway makes (Lettuce, tomato, pickles, roasted peppers and onion on a roll with your favorite dressing)

a couple of times i have had peanut butter and carrot sandwiches they were okay. but i usually get this vegetable lunchable thing from the grocery store, it come with a few carrots, broccoli, celery and a little dressing in a little lunchable setup. (but it doesnt come witha juice or anything). that fills me up

deb I am so sorry, but instead of answering your question, I am asking you a question.

I am new at being a vegetarian and I joined PETA. I am new to all of this and in I do not know much about PETA but that they are out to help animals.

Is there more to PETA than this? Please tell me why you do not like PETA for my own information.
