Vegetarians who eat eggs are ovo-vegetarians. They have a hyphenated term because eggs are not animals (so people are still vegetarians for eating them) but the eggs are not vegetables either. So they hyphen adds ovum to a diet of vegetables. <~~~ Sorry, I am a bit of a grammar nerd.

Because the egg is not fertilized, they are doing nothing more than eating the chicken's period. Sure it's is gross, but to most it is not as gross as eating decaying flesh.
:)

I personally do not eat eggs because chickens are tortured their entire "lives" to get eggs. But that is just my prerogative.

It is not really a pro-life issue because even if you have a moral question about when Life begins, even the most devout Catholics do not believe that an egg, unfertilized by semen, is life.

Technically, yes, Vegetarians can eat eggs due to the fact that they have not been fertilised, and therefor will not one day turn into a cute little chick.

But if you are not eating meat for pro-life reasons, I would suggest you not eat eggs, or any dairy products for that matter, because of all the suffering and animal cruelty that goes along with it. For example, eggs; because factorys have little need for male chickens, most of the male chicks are put in plastic garbage bags and left to suffocate. Or they're thrown alive into a mulcher to become food for the other chickens. They also cut a large amount of the female chickens beaks off so they cant kill each other when they're stuffed into small cages together.

Also, like any other animal used for dairy products, once their production rate starts to go down, in the end, they suffer the same fate as the animals that are used solely for meat production.

There are several classes of vegetarians ranging from vegans the most strict form of vegetarianism. They do not consume any animal by-products such as eggs or even bread made with eggs. They don't even eat honey because the bees have to produce it and then it is taken from them. Ovo hyphenated infront of vegetarian means that they consume a vegetarian diet that includes eggs. Lacto hyphenated in front means that they consume milk.

Yes, vegetarians can eat eggs (and the eggs that are sold in grocery stores are unfertilized anyway, so they never would turn into a chick). Vegetarians don't eat slaughtered animals [meat] (except, sometimes, for fish, but that's a personal choice). Vegans don't eat anything that comes from an animal, so they don't eat eggs, dairy products, (honey I'm not sure about), etc.

Yes vegetarians can eat eggs.

Vegetarian do not eat meat or animal flesh. They can however eat or drink animal products like honey, milk, cheese, eggs and other dairy products.

Vegans on the other hand do not eat meat or any product that has come from an animal like milk or honey.

Yes. Vegans can't.

And also, the eggs that we eat would never become an animal. They are unfertilized. Saying every egg is going to become a chicken is like saying a woman miscarries every time she has a period.

Vegetarians can/do eat eggs. Today's egg farmers keep the female chickens away from the males, so the eggs you eat from the supermarket have not been fertilized and therefore do not have the potential to become chickens. Vegans, however, stay away from all animal products including eggs, cheese, and milk.

Vegetarians fall into groups defined by the types of animal-derived foods they eat:

Vegans eliminate all foods from animals, including meat, poultry, fish, milk, eggs and cheese. They eat only plant-based foods.
Lacto-vegetarians consume milk and milk products along with plant-based foods. They omit eggs as well as meat, fish and poultry.
Lacto-ovo vegetarians omit red meat, fish and poultry but eat eggs, milk and milk products, such as cheese and yogurt, in addition to plant-based foods.
