When a person has gential herpes they are most at risk of giving it to others whenever they have an 'active breakout'. They are always contagious, but usually the use of a condom, using a daily preventative dose of an antiviral (Famvir, Valtrex, or any of the others) and avoiding sex when the blisters are actively open enables them to have a normal sex life with a consenting (and hopefully one who is aware)partner

do you mean a condom can shield you from herpes?
i am afraid, when a herpes is active, a condom will not give you or your partner full protection. No sex is safe sex in my oppinion, untill a couple of days after all symptoms dissapear.
as a meassure of safety, condoms offer some protection but i wouldn't count on it alone. Waiting untill the symptoms vanish and some more days is the best way.
use special unguents against herpes, all pharmacists will know.
(xi... or xe... something, helps immediately when the first signs of erruption appear, stops eruption alltogether, if too late, helps in a matter of days the symptoms to go. herpes doesn't heal completely ever, but when not active , not contagious at all.
About 80% of people have it ( the common variant (Herpes Simplex or so?) so it is long not an std. you get it by ANY MINOR TOUCH between a herpes wound and any NONSKIN surface of the body, like genitals, mouth, eyes, where the virus can penetrate easy. Drinking after someone with herpes is allready contagious ! so what we talk about comdoms ?? No sex is safe sex. better wait a couple of days, no tragedy ! :-)

the best wishes
Peter

Yes, it's always a possibility. Herpes is most contagious during an outbreak, but you can't always tell when an outbreak is first beginning. Men are at a real disadvantage because the herpes blister can break out in the vaginal canal and on the cervix of a woman where they can't be seen. Even if you use a condom, it is no guarantee. I give my students this analogy: When you wear a seat belt is that a 100% guarantee you won't get killed in a car accident? Of course not. It's simply a way of minimizing your risk.

I got diagnosed with herpes (type 2) about 4 yrs ago, whilst I was still attending college and had a foolish one-night stand. I realize a lot of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a mistake that one time and all of a sudden I felt like I was going to have to live with the implications for my entire life. The worst part was feeling I could never date other men again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone that has sores around her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/k7sDf everything improved.

Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the hsv from my body in less than three weeks, but I was also able to begin dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so lucky to write that just a week ago, in front of everybody in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!!! This system provided me the chance to be happy and experience true love again. Now I want to help others too by sharing this story.

You can get herpes even if you are using a condom.

No, condom use does not cause herpes, but you can get it despite using a condom, and it isn't even difficult.
