I am a vegetarian and, per somebody's recommendation, I eat products with flaxseed oil (flax cereal and stuff) to get my dose of "omega-3" but I am not convinced that it is really all that important. I've even done research and it just seems like something that--if I include it in my diet, good; if I don't, no big deal. Could someone explain to me if I need it that badly? Thanks!

if you are in your 50's or above you should probably eat some of those omega-3 pills since it's supposedly good for your body...my mother even brings several bottles abroad to China so that her mother can have some. you probably don't need it badly..it's actually for the health of your cardiovascular system (i.e your heart) but since you're a vegetarian i don't think you're in desperate need of it..^^

You need all your omegas. 3, 6 and 9 for complete health. Keeps your heart well. Keeps your brain well. You can get a good source from your diet. But I supplement due to the amount of "convenience" (prepackaged) food I use.

Check the link below for the veggie food pyramid. You'll see you don't need that much. I prefer Hemp Oil myself. It's just a better source.

Omega 3s and 6s are important for the neurological system; they help with stress and anxiety.
