did you ever experiance spasms in your left side painless prior to being diagnosed? Have had them for a year, and had my blood tested once and it was at the high end of normal?

That doesn't sound like a typical symptom of diabetes. And without more details as to the spasm's frequency, severity, timing and location, it's really difficult to even try to come up with possibilities. Sorry. Best of luck.
