One of my friend, a 38 year old female has a problem since two years of having a sudden pain in the chest on the left side, where she feels sharp needles like pain. Ir comes and goes fast. Since the last two weeks it has been there continously. Before that she was having back pain also which shifted from left to right and then was gone. Now she thinks that this pain in the chest is related to that back pain, but I think it is an early symtoms of heart problem. Please keep in mind that her father also has heart problem. Can you please share your views?

It definately sounds like your friend need to see her Doctor ASAP.
I'd say it's heart but I'm not a medical person, I've only done some First Aid training. Pain in your chest, radiating to your left arm are one of the best symptoms to identify a heart problem.

I hope she's allright!

I had a heart attack in June so I would advise that she sees the doctor straight away. I was advised by the hospital that if I ever had a chest pain to call an ambulance. People don't always get second chances so I would get her to either go to emergency the next time it happens or call the ambulance. In the meantime she needs to be seen by a doctor.Hope everything turns out ok.

hi there i had a heart attack when i was 40 and my father died of a massive heart attack ,he was only 53 yes you can inherit heart disease from your parents but also certain contributes like smoking poor diet not getting enough exercise is all factors i myself did nor experience any pins and needles but like a numbing pain down my left arm like someone hitting it and you cant move it its a weird pain and of course the tightness in the chest like a squeezing sensation some people do experience a pain in the jaw too but i think it best that she does get a checkup from gp to be on the safe side especially when you say that her father suffers from heart disease a few simple tests will tell your friend better to do that and be of sound mind good luck my friend

well she needs a physical exam by a doctor.

I once fitted a 24 hour ECG to a lady who had been having chest pain for months. She took her bra off for the test and came back the following day having been without pain for the first time in months. Her pain was caused by her bra being too tight.

Rule out the mundane before panicking.

There are a lot of things that can cause chest pain and pressure outside of blockages in the arteries.

Things in the heart like vasospasm, high blood pressure and CHF can all cause chest symptoms as well as things outside the heart like pneumonea, asthma, GERD and musculoskeletal problems. Even things outside the chest like anxiety can cause chest symptoms.

she should work with your physician to come up with an explanation that you are comfortable with

That sounds like a heart problem. One of the signs of a heart attack is shooting pain in your chest and arm. But it sounds to me like she hasn't had a heart attack yet but it's coming close. I would get her to a doctor fast

get her to ask her doctor to arrange a treadmill test to check the possibility of early heart disease given the family history. If all clear it could just be a 'cardiac catch'.

Bearing in mind her family history I'd advise her to go to the doctor immediately...she's obviously scared and burying her head in the sand is only going to increase her stress levels...have a word with her....offer her your support, get her friends to convince her to go to the doctor...even offer to go with her to hold her hand if needs be

In my opinion your friend is having neuro muscular disorder. It is induced by deficiency of Vit B1, B6, B 12. So ask her to take these tablets for some long period. 2nd adv is this that she must take care of her stomach specially Constipation.
