FRUIT!!! I eat only fruit for breakfast in the morning to start my day. Fruit takes almost no effort from your body to digest, and it is one of the best energy foods you could eat. I eat at least 2 fruits every morning, I also love to make smoothies with frozen fruit and soy milk. The human body prefers to get its energy from sugars (NOT refined sugars) and starches, your body converts its starches into sugars. The sugar in fruit is the best kind you could give yourself. Other great energy foods are whole grain foods, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Dried fruit makes for a great snack between meals if you become hungry.

Many people will tell you that more protein will give you more energy but that is not true at all. For the human body to digest protein it must use alot of energy. Protein is used to grow hair, nails and replace dead cells in the body, or to grow if you are still young. You only lose 4/5 of an ounce of protein each day anyway thats about 1.5 pounds a month. The time of your life that you need the most protein is when you are a baby because of how much growing you do. Human breast milk is only 5% protein, this goes to show that an adult human requires very little protein.

Here are some tasty and good energy meals I enjoy.

Fruit salid for breakfast

you will need 1 grapefruit, 2 oranges, 1/2 avocado.

cut in half a segment the grapefruit and orages then squeeze them into a bowl. Slice the avocado in small chunks and add it with the fruit. Enjoy!

Here is another one good for any time of the day

cook up some rice (brown rice is best) put a serving in a bowl (optional put a little butter and mix it in, sprinkle on some sugar) sprinkle on some cinnamon pour on some soy milk or cows milk if you prefer, and enjoy! on the side you could have a salid or some other munchy veggies.

I am a vegan and I eat only eat a small amount of protein, I have more energy than I know what to do with! I do alot of physical activity every day for hours I do light muscle building, lots of cardio and stretching. And only need to sleep for 6 hours. I mostly eat fruit, vegetables, whole grain foods, a few legumes, some nuts and seeds and tofu once in awile. I am 19 years old and became a vegan 6 weeks ago and I have never felt so good and full of energy in my life!

Make sure that you have enough B vitamins, magnesium and zinc. Also make sure you get some omega 3 fatty acids, like flax oil. You may want to supplement. Do you work out? If you don't, you could just be out of shape. Try to walk outside or ride a bike more. Seeds and nuts are good for their proteins, fats and minerals.

Eat whole grains with dairy products. Make sure to get enough fiber. Avoid refined sweets.

I highly recommend premium coconut milk as a great source of vegetarian energy. The intrinsic coconut oil (like olive oil) is an MCT (medium chain triglyceride), which is known to be a very quick source of energy. Climbers love it! MCT's do not require the production of bile to be broken down in the liver, and not only go straight to the portal vein to be turned into energy, but are also less inclined to be stored by the body as fat.

Coconut milk is also a great healthy alternative to soy milk, which is highly toxic, due to naturally occurring substances in soy beans which interfere with the uptake of thyroid hormone. Also soy's claims of being high in protein are deceptive, since its protein is not very bioavailable. While coconut is not very high in protein, it is high in lauric acid, which is known to be very immuno supportive.

And guys should take note, soy lowers your testosterone.

It is high in phytoestrogens which are also known to cause premature puberty in girls, delayed puberty in boys, and hypothyroidism. Since thyroid hormone informs all of the body's tissues how to process oxygen, drinking soymilk is sort like slowly suffocating.

You can find coconut milk in the asian foods section of your local grocery store.

Also, if nothing you try helps, look into the book: EAT RIGHT FOR YOUR TYPE. A vegetarian diet might not be right for your blood type. Some people (like me) actually function best on a diet that includes red meat -- whether we want it that way or not.

Tons of nuts and eggs. Also, a protein bar without meat in it. The brand 'Odwalla' has a "super protein" bar that is fruity instead of heavy and nutty, and it is very good Also, the # 1 ingredient in it is grape juice concentrate. I <3 it. I don't know if you can get it where you are, but I'm sure you could order them online. Their website's link is below, and you can locate a store.

Without knowing exactly what you are eating I would tell you to take a look at your calorie intake, many times new vegetarians are simply not eating enough. I made this same mistake and once I realized it, it has never been a problem again, and I've never felt better. Good luck!
