I am a former chef and was a vegatraian for many years, there is no meat in BBQ sauce, I used to make it in the restaurants I worked in, I to like it on veggie burgers and grilled veg.
Any kind is fine, but you do not have deprive yourself of it for that reason. I like something with a smokey tinge, the smokey flavour is not from meat, I have even used it for veggie styley meatballs and fooled people into thinking it was meat with the right sauce and presentation even tofu can be made taste palatable.

Well here are my best ideas. I loved grilled mushrooms and grilled eggplant. So I would take about 1/4 cup of olive oil and mix 1 minced clove of garlic, 2 Tbsp of minced onion, 1 Tbsp of dark brown sugar, 1 tsp of salt, and 1 Tbsp of good chili powder in it. I would take the vegetables and clean them thoroughly. I would cut the egg plant into long meaty chunks and sprinkle it with salt and let it sit for 30 minutes. Brush off the salt and put the seasoned oil on the mushrooms and garlic. I would grill them ideally putting some nice smokey wood chips on the fire first. Then when they are about 1 minute from done I would slather them in some prepared BBQ sauce and turn up the heat real high so that it can carmelize a little. Slap it on some sandwich bread or serve it plain. Of course don't forget the potato salad and some coleslaw on the side. The sides make the meal!

Yes, a lot of cravings are really for condiments. Mock duck or seitan is sold in Asian food markets. It is a wheat gluten product. You can cook it on a cookie sheet with barbeque sauce on it. Also, the brand Morning Star Farms has a product called meal starters. It comes in fake chicken and fake ground beef. And the Gardenburger brand has barbequed riblets, which are very good.

Or you can make barbecue wings/"chicken" like you usually do, but substitute White Wave wheat meat, Morning Star Farms chicken strips or even Boca breaded chicken patties. Slather it with whatever you are used to.

i recognize what you propose! they're the only fake meat product I have tried that extremely sketched me out with how similar the flavor and texture became to valid poultry. Their chikn nuggets flavor scarily such as authentic poultry nuggets, my dad who's a complicated center omnivore ought to no longer tell the adaptation or maybe concept they tasted better then the genuinely poultry nuggets he ate. The Quorn products to me flavor perfect even as in a sandwich, wrap or salad. Makes you somewhat more desirable fuller than only a popular veggie selection ought to.

i have no idea...if you are looking for like tex mex food there are fish tacos...but my best friend is vegitarian and she always orders a salad at BBQ places...if you just want the taste buy a veggie burger and grill it in BBQ sauce. The burgers are great and im sure they would go together. Also...there are veg cooking websites.

I'm not a vegetarian, but love barbeque tempeh. It's not the same as BBQ chicken, but it is very good.
