it depends. Do they smoke outside? if they do, then the smoke and chemicals in it, will just go in the air, and you'll be fine, because fresh air is made by plants 24/7. If they smoke inside, then yes you have a greater risk of gettin the lung cancer and such diseases. When it happens inside, its harder for air to circulate, and all the chemicals from the cigarret will be inside the house. You'll be taking in the same air that they do, when they breath in through the cigarret, and then they puff it back out to the air you breath. Im not trying to scare you, but if they do smoke inside, then you have as much a risk as they do for those diseases. Ask them to smoke outside, because your worried for your health to, as well as theirs and that they should try and stop. If you really get worried, you can talk to your doctor about it. They will be able to tell if you may possibly be eligable for some sicknesses. Second hand smoke doesnt really have a time limit until it effects you, it all depends on how much you breath in, and for how long. I know someone who tried smoking once, one puff was all they took, and they hated it! But they are soo healthy! one of the healthiest people i know! If your breathing it in constantly, then it may effect you. I highly suggest talking to a doctor. They know all the best answers.

I grew up around smoke-- my dad, grandparents, aunts, uncles, family friends. The smell still makes me nauseous.
I have numerous health problems, including asthma and most of my docs think at least half of my issues can be traced to the second hand smoke I was exposed to as a kid.
I have no problem with other people choosing to smoke, but I don't want them choosing to make me smoke with them in a second hand way.

Second hand smoking is the worst, you can still get lung cancer from second hand smoke, and it is worse if you have asthma, which I do. Everytime I smell a little bit of smoke I start coughing and I can't breathe. It sucks! Smoking should be banned from the earth!

my beliefs aside, it's medically proven to be at least as, or more, toxic than smoking. i think it's really inconsiderate and insulting when someone lights up, thinking that we'd all like to share in their addiction. i become absolutely livid with parents that smoke around children and take assanine and worthless "precautions", ie rolling down windows and fanning smoke out of the door . . .

I quit when my daughter was born. So she wouldn't be effected. In confined areas like an office I guess it would be bad. As a bricklayer in the elements, it doesn't bother me.
