Most associate rosin with allergic reactions including asthma and contact dermatitis. It would probably be a good idea not to over-rosin the bow for your stringed instrument. Just get it tacky enough to get the friction you need. You can probably mix and match rosins to get the tackiness you want. Rosin for bass players are usually thicker and stickier.

"Rosin is a well known allergy causing substance and it is considered to be 4th or 5th in the top 10 known skin sensitisers. Skin contact with the rosin itself can cause contact dermatitis, an allergic reaction. It may cause skin, eyes, and respiratory tract irritation. It can also cause eczema. On that web page, it states that abietic acid is the primary allergen. It's part of the derivative from pine tree sap.

Is rosin light enough to be airborne or does it fall straight to the floor ?
