i recently returned to vegetarianism for several reasons. one is health. another is morals. another is simply because i think it's good to have a cause and this is kind of mine. i am not a vegan. i read that it's nearly impossible to be a vegan and i agree with that. felt tip pens contain wool. so do pianos. anything with glue might contain animal products. synthetic engine oils have animal byproducts. so for now i am vegetarian and i use dairy and eggs in my diet. i think animals are mistreated and that's sad, but this is what i'm doing to help.
someone came to my college and did a talk about how even just becoming partial vegetarian is good for animals. these are not my words, so don't bash what i'm saying. the speaker talked about how cutting your use of meats even by 50 or 75 percent does some good, theoretically, because if the world ate 75 percent less meat, animals would live better. agree or disagree?
she also said that when john wayne died, they found 40 pounds of undigested meat in his intestines during the autopsy! gross! maybe we weren't meant to eat as much meat as we think we are! i dunno, though. i feel better as a vegetarian and i don't think i'll ever eat meat again, but i don't know if i could ever become a vegan.

I'm a vegetarian. I still haven't managed to give up certain foods that have dairy and egg in them. As for why I stopped eating meat, I could claim a few reasons: animal welfare, environment, health, etc. The real reason, though, is mostly that when I ate meat, I'd feel awful and get this sick sensation if I thought at all about what I was eating.
On a sidenote to lonedragon: You are not a vegetarian if you eat fish. You are a pescatarian. Vegetarians don't eat meat at all.

I'm a vegetarian. I think I may be considered ovo-lacto, but really, when I began, I just decided for myself what I would and wouldn't eat.
I eat seafood and dairy. I do not eat "land meat" (e.g. beef, pork, chicken).
Originally, I did it because one side of my family has terrible cholesterol levels, and I thought I'd try out being a vegetarian. Within days, I felt so great, I just never went back. I've been a veggie girl for 5-1/2 years. The moral reasons are a nice perk.
I am not vegan specifically for cheese and ice cream. :)

A vegan is a person who doesn't eat or drink anything that had to do anything with an animal like cheese and milk right?
If so then I would be a Vegetarian. I just can't think of the idea of eating a cow, chicken, a rabbit, or even a horse! So I eat veggies and fruit :)

i am a proud vegetarian and have been since i could choose my own food. i became one because i understood the cruelty of the meat industry and how sad and wrong it is that millions of animals are killed just so we can have what we want on our plates. over the years i have heard more and more evidence that being a vegan/vegetarian is good for your health, which encourages me but even if there weren't any health benefits i would never eat meat. i am a good, healthy weight (5'6" and 125 lbs) and i rarely ever get sick. i also feel a lot better about myself because i do not selfishly support animal cruelty.

i'm a vegetarian. i've been for a little over a year, starting my freshman year in highschool. I started doing it for health reasons. I was at risk for diabetes and such. And my cousin is a vegetarian (although, i found out later that she simply has an eating disorder and stamped it as vegetarianism). anyways, that's why i did it. there are four general reasons why i'm staying a veggie though.
1. ethics (animal rights, nonviolence, i watched this video from peta about how animals are treated in farms. i never ate meat again after that. ew. and the worst part is that its LEGAL, so they didn't get prosecuted for it! watch if you haven't eaten anything yet.
http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/video.asp?video=agri_short&Player=wm&speed=_med
2. health (there's nothing that you can't get from a plant, there are plenty of major diseases linked to a meat based diet, and by eating meat you consume both livestock drugs and agricultural chemicals)
3. personal finances (eating veggie is generally far more cheap than eating meat. and it's better in my opinion)
4. the environment (by not eating meat, we slow down the chopping down of forests for raising livestock. and these forests in question could contain the cure for cancer! also, people are starving in other countries. it takes 16 lbs of grains to make one pound of beef. by simply eating the grains straight, you get more energy on less food. it also takes up more fossil fuel and water to produce meat than plants.)

Isn't a vegan actually a vegetarian? I thought the only difference was that they ate absolutely no animal by product what so ever, whereas other forms of vegetarianism, ate certain animal products.

vegetarian, because of pink's video about wool that got me interested in peta, and then once i saw the error of what i was doing i started to feel guilty and read about all the nasty things in the meat and stuff. It's gross so i was like my body doesn't need that, so i decided to change to vegetarian for now maybe vegan later if i don't like veggieism.

I am vegetarian. Been for about a year. Do it for health reasons and moral reasons. Youre eating living flesh that has been.....who knows where its been and injected with stuff. Its sad and nasty. Also, being veg. is great cause you try a variety of different fruits and veggies you probably wouldnt otherwise try.

Wysteria, you are correct. All vegans are vegetarians, but not all vegetarians are vegans. Veganism is when you eat nooo animal or animal product, and vegetarianism can encompass dairy and eggs.
I'm a vegan for 3 reasons: animal welfare, ecology, and health.
