I am sure that pets that are fed people food eventually will suffer from the same ailments as people.

Yes they can and do. Animals can get just about every health issue we can. Phyically their organs and the way their bodys work is almost the same design. I have seen diabetes in older animals more common. i gre up on a ranch and we had a horse that was diabete. Just like people if the problem is treated right they do just fine. We even had a horse that was allergic to dust, beleive me that was interesting to care for. I have seen dogs with epalepys. I beleive the only thing they can't get is STD's but there is a form of AIDS for cats.

I think animals and birds are not suffering from diabetics and blood pressure because they are not eating food like human nature. The reasons for diabetics and BP is salt, sugar and oil content food.

Yes, I know someone with some super fat dogs who have take perscription medicine because they have diabetes.
