Hi... :) Before I begin, I would just like to suggest to you (as well as everyone who happens to read this) to include your age whenever you ask a medical question. Because a lot of possible diagnosis depends on age. ;) But don't worry.. I'll answer to the best of my ability. :)
Light-headedness, cold sweat and weakness are symptoms of LOW sugar in the blood. However, diabetes is a condition where your blood sugar is HIGH.
What you are experiencing does not sound like diabetes. Diabetics get light-headed and cold sweat only when they take too much of their anti-sugar medicine (insulin or pills) and they don't eat enough.. thus causing the sugar in their blood to drop really low.
Therefore, drinking sugary drink should not cause the above symptoms, as it increases the amount of sugar in your blood. There are a few possibilities to your problem:
1) The light-headedness may be independent of the sugary water. Do you get the attacks whenever you stand up? Or do you get it even when you are sitting / lying down? If you only get it when you stand up, you might have postural hypotension. There are many reasons for this, among them being dehydration and anemia, so you should see your doctor for this.
2) Your sugary drink might have caused your pancreas to produce too much insulin, such that your blood sugar suddenly crashes. Why does your pancreas do this? You should see a doctor to be further investigated.
3) You could be having an anxiety attack. This could be due to either a thyroid problem or a psychological problem. Either way, you should see a doctor.
4) If you are above 50 years old, or if your symptoms are related to chest pain/discomfort, you must must go to the doctor to get your heart checked.
Bottomline is... see a doctor if you are really worried. The above are just merely possibilities and cannot replace a doctor's advice/diagnosis.
Another suggestion is to buy a glucometer - a simple device to measure your blood glucose (which is quite expensive). When you get another attack, measure your blood sugar immediately. Look through the manual of the device to check whether your blood sugar is high or low. But ultimately, see the nearest doc! :)
All the best!

RE:
Do you think i could be borderline or diabetic?
A couple of time I have had a few sugary drinks without eating first. About a half an hour afterwards I get light headed, break out in a cold sweat, and have an URGENT need to get something to eat and drink. Then tonight i was at work and had a sugary drink, my hand started to tingle and I felt...

Your symptoms do not seem to match Diabetes. For example, you wouldn't have hypoglycemic (or low blood sugar) episodes (lightheaded, cold sweat, hunger) after consuming a large amount of simple carbs (sugary drinks or regular pop). Your symptoms seem to be hypoglycemic in nature. Is your body producing too much insulin? I'm not sure, and this isn't the forum to find out! Only your doctor and his/her lab to determine that.
It might be inconvienient, but maybe record a mini-journal in a notepad or PDA, noting the symptom and time of the incident. Also include what you ate in the last few hours, and what strenuous activity you participated in within the last few hours.
There are three major issues that determine your blood glucose values: what carbs (or sugary, or pasta, or bread) you've consumed, what activity you participated in (to burn carbs) and how much insulin your body is producing (to utilize, or metabolize those carbs for your cells.) Its a three way balance.
Then, see your Doctor as soon as you can. Show your journal. It will help your practitioner.
Good luck. Try not to operate dangerous machinery (equipment, vehicles, etc.) until you find out with your Dr. what is going on. An episode like what you've mentioned can be fatal while operating a vehicle.

Unlike what other people have said, there is such a thing as borderline diabetic, it's called "pre-diabetic". Diabetes is a progressive disease, which means it generally gets worse (or harder to control) over time. A fasting blood sugar reading is in order, but the results from just one test is not 100% accurate. Your doctor may also need you to take a glucose tolerance test (drink a sugary liquid, and then have your blood tested at intervals). Please schedule a visit with your doctor and in the mean time, try to restrict your intake of sugar and simple starches.

I have diabetes. I was thursty all the time and had to urinate every fifteen minutes. My blood sugar level was 600 and I didn't not I had diabetes at the time. Now since I have stated my medication when my blood sugar level goes below 70 I feel whoosy. My hands shaky and I become agitated. You should seek medical help because you might have diabetes and diabetes is very serious. If your blood sugar level get too high or too low you could go into a diabetic coma or you could die.

First, there is no such thing as borderline diabetes. You either are or are not diabetic.
You certainly have something going on and it definitely needs to be investigated by an MD. So, see your doctor ASAP and insist on finding the answers. Do not make excuses, do not argue and do not delay. If this is diabetes, then avoiding your doctor can be damaging your kidneys and your liver. If this is not diabetes, you life could well be at stake.

I read this e-book developed by natural health specialist, speaker, and writer Matt Traverso http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=549
. It asserts that you could reverse the source of diabetes in as short as 3 weeks. Even though I'm not a physicians or a scientist I don't think that diabetes can be reversed... unfortunately it's chronic disease as far as I know. That said I found this book very interesting and it gave me a different perspective on diabetes, causes and cures. I think it's worth buying it.
