I had a cold about amonth ago with a stuffy nose. now I dont have a stuffy nose, but a little bit of post nasal drip... hardly noticable. About two days ago, I ran a low grade fever for a day and felt dizzy and sick to my stomach. then the next day I felt fine but in the morning and during the evening hours, had an awful smell in my nose. My nose isnt really stuffy at all and I can breath fine. could this still be a sinus infection? I dont have a head ache or fever anymore, but still smell that smell that stinks so bad off and on threw out the day.

My husband is a smoker. He has sinus infections year round. If it is a bad one, there is defininitely a bad smell. The smell is caused by pus pockets that are up inside the sinus cavity. I actually saw this when my husband had a sinus scope in his allergist office. Get to the doctor and get some antibiotic. His doctor says it is important to wash out your sinuses with saline spray and keep them moist. It is normal to have some drip. Decongestants that dry up the post nasal drip actually cause the infections the doctor said

Gosh, I don't know. I've had so many sinus infections that I know when I have one. I usually blow out colored mucous and the bones all around my eyes and nose hurt when I touch those areas. It really wipes me out and I've had to go to bed--usually when the fever spikes. I lost my sense of smell from them, so I don't know about the nasty smell you are experiencing. Here's what I've been told to do for sinus infections. Get Ocean or another saline spray at Rite Aid--you can use as much as you want--it's salt water; Afrin, but only take it according to directions; and Claritin D. The doc will prescribe an antibiotic if it's real bad. Rather than self med yourself, I think you should go to the doctor and have it checked out. Your sinuses are real close to your brain and a bad infection could result. Take your multi-vitamin every day to help with your immunity. Best wishes.

Could be a sinus infection. Your sinus can be swollen to the point that it is blocked or severely obstructed. You need to steam the nose to help open it up, drink plenty of water and may be even use a decongestant. A good nasal spray may also help but use it only as needed.

I have had sinus infections on and off for years (back when I smoked), and never had a bad smell associated with them. Maybe your sinus tract flesh is rotting...possibly from the flesh eating bacteria.

Yes, it probably is. We have a lot of sinuses in there, some are behind our eyes. You should probably get some antibiotics.
