By coincidence, this was on Branaic Test Tube Baby tonight and they proved it has no such effect. People only think it does because Scrooge ate cheese in "A Christmas Carol" before he had his nightmares.

I don't believe what you eat causes nightmares. Nightmares are caused my your subconcious mind, just like regulare dreams are. Now if you are lactose intolerant, it might give you an upset stomach in your sleep, but generally, eating cheese at bedtime is no big deal.
And yes, I have done it on purpose because I didn't want to be hungry in the middle of the night, and it worked.

I often eat cheese with an apple before bed and I can't ever remember having nightmares, although I suppose I could have forgotten by the time I woke up.

I get REALLY bad nightmares if i eat cheese before bed.The kind of nightmares that you wake up and it takes you 10mins to work out it was just a nightmare and you still feel really distressed all day.But i also get migraines from cheese and wine so maybe that is has something to do with it.

I often try to eat cheese before i go to bed just to test the theory that it gives you nightmares but so far I've never had one after eating cheese. I've tried different cheeses too i.e. cheddar, brie, gouda etc but so far there's been diddley squat on the nightmares. Maybe i'm just not eating enough!!!

I once had lightning flashes and thunder in a dream after eating cheese late. It woke me up.
I'll only eat cheese late night if the tele has been dull and I need some entertainment.
Nightmares are cool, cos, even when you get killed in them you still wander around all purple and stuff.

I have tried it twice, once just cheese and then cheese and pickles, but no nightmares or dreams, unfortunately, except a bad start for the day next day. ;-)
