How do YOU decorate your home for birthdays? and what foods do u serve? & what games do you have to kill time?

What I do is usually blow alot of colorful balloons, not too whack but matching and with streamers and curly ribbon from the balloons, maybe banners on the wall "happy birthday". I have plastic thing over my table, i sometimes get white or a color of table clothe/towel and put confetti under the see through table cloth .. i put up the streamers diagonally, zigzag, or just make a X in the dining area and i tape balloons on the wall and filled ballons with helium for the ceiling. i also serve, chips, pop, ice cream, cookies, etc as lil snacks. and that cake when they blow out candels.. for meal part potatoe salad, lasagna, pasta salad, caesar salad, garden salad, chinese rice, chicken balls, ribbs with honey sauce or something, oh and i usually keep movies in tv room and game rooms ps2, xbox, computer room and music going in the dining area, living room... is there anything i can change or add?

To answer a part of your question....

I put lots of pictures of the birthday person in "dollar-store" picture frames all over the house. I decorate/paint the frames myself so they're all different.

Baby pictures, graduation pictures, right after they were born pictures, wedding pictures, class pictures....you get the ideas.

I've gotten a lot of positive feedback.

It really depends. For my kids, I decorate with streamers and balloons until the ceiling is practically covered and then make streamer curtains over the doorways. Use themed table coverings, plates, and cups. Have a pinata filled with more toys than candies and a baseball bat on hand (just in case the pinata stick doesn't break the pinata).
We have kid friends over and have make your own pizzas, chips and fruit and veggie trays. The kids of course get cake and ice cream.
We have basketball tourneys where everyone gets a medal, do relay races, or play roller hockey (depending on which child's b-day it is).

My husband didn't have that many celebrated b-days as a child so I usually hang streamers and a Happy B-Day sign and balloons and cook his favorite meal-tamales, rice and beans. Sometimes, if his friends are not deployed, I will invite some of his buddies over and they end up playing b-ball or poker. Either way-he feels special and that is all that matters.

If you are throwing a party for kids, I would be concerened that the food may be too grown up and heavy. Keep it simple and plan activities for the kids to do outside. Afterall, they will need to work off all that sugar from the soda and cake.

I would need to know what age range you are looking at.....this idea would only work for small groups over 10 and then still closely supervised. We do fondue parties all the time. My daughter and her friends especially like when we do a spagetti fondue. The sauce is heated, then put on the flame (you can get a killer fondue pot for about 20 bucks-got mine on clearance for 13! The "dippers" for the spagetti sauce are jumbo pasta shells (precooked al dente) little cubes of garlic bread, chicken nuggets, ham cubes, Then, for desert we do a chocolate or caremel fondue with banana, strawberry, apples and pears. As for decorating...I leave it up to the lil ones! We ended up with christmas garland all over the house on halloween! lol

I'd change everything! It's all everyday food.... so why not find something nice that you don't eat all the time and if you play games to kill time, then I suggest something more enjoyable...why don't you have a tournament, like a card tournament,.,, and give prizes
