I'm seven weeks pregnant and craving MEAT all the time--any meaty dishes just sound so very good. And although I do eat some meat, I try and avoid eating too much, especially fatty stuff (it exacerbates my nausea), but unfortunately, other protein sources like beans and nuts are just NOT doing it for me! What shall I do?

Try giving in to your cravings - your body might be trying to tell you something!

You might be craving the fat in meat or maybe you need some iron or protein. Try having at least 1 handfull of raw nuts every day, these are full of healthy fats and protein as a bonus. grind some raw flax seed in a coffee grinder and sprinkle about a tablespoon on your salids or cereal, this has lots of omega 3. If its iron you need, then try eating a handfull of raisins or raw pumpkin seeds these are a good iron source, also green vegetables are a good iron source. Other dried fruit is good too.

Fruit, sprouts, vegetables, nuts, seeds are great sources of amino acids (the bulding blocks of protein) if you are eating lots of these foods you body will naturaly construct and replace its own protein. Grain and starch foods have little to no amino acids. Thats how animals like cows can grow from 75 pounds at birth to 1200 pounds in less than 4 years. Plant foods including grass are filled with amino acids.

Many people think that you need to eat protein to get protein but thats not true. I could go into further detail but it would take long to explane. Google it if you are curious

Oh here is another realy filling food I love!! Cook up some brown rice, take a searving in a bowl sprinkle on some cinnamon and sugar if you wish. You can also add 1 tbls of butter to melt on the rice if you want. And now pour on eather soy milk, rice milk, or cows milk.

Enjoy!

If its the flavor you are craving, try a grilled portobello mushroom burger-yummy. If its the protein, try some quinoa grain (hf store) which is a complete protein. If you check an earlier post about eating meat, I posted a lengthy one on why I dont touch the stuff! I still crave it sometimes, but have been veggie for two years and just wont go there. Google a recipe for pupusas, which is an interesting tortilla filled with beans and or cheese. Yummy and feels like eating a beef burito....without the consequences. Congrats on your lil growing baby. Good luck.

just have some to flavor the foods and choose something lean like turkey or chicken.

a stir fry or a ground meat casserole could statisfy you.

Maybe you are just hungry??

Try to eat more,
If you are scared of gaining weight, eat a lot of veggies and steamed grains, brown rice, oats, qinoa, barley and bulgur(cracked wheat) are all very filling. Two-three cups of veggies and a full cup of grain plus some protein food will make you feel STUFFED and you might notice that the cravings go away after a really big meal.

Don't be afraid to eat meat if you want it, though.
And don't worry about gaining weight. Your baby will really suffer if you try to hold your weight down too much.
It's average to gain 25 lbs, 11.5 kilos during pregnancy. It's mostly water, baby and placenta!

good luck! Bon appetite!

That's a good idea to stick with lean cuts of meat, but Gardenburger's chicken patties or riblets taste just like their non-vegan counterparts and might staisfy your cravings. I'm a newly converted vegetarian, so I still miss the taste of meat, but these are so delicious that I feel statisfied. Plus, they are way better than Boca. If your cravings persist you might want to check with your doctor to make sure you are not lacking a vitamen or nutrient in your diet.

once you're yearning it, there is a few thing in it that your body desires in the present day. a chum of mine is vegan, and both cases that she became pregnant, her medical doctors advised her she had to devour some meat. She persisted eating meat even as she became breastfeeding, i imagine, yet then she gradually cut back it out again and continues to be vegetarian.

Maybe your body is trying to tell you something.

The iron in meat (heme iron) is of high quality and well absorbed by the body, unlike nonheme iron from plants which is not well absorbed. More than 90 percent of iron consumed may be wasted when taken without some heme iron from animal sources. Substances found to inhibit nonheme iron absorption include phytates in cereals, nuts and legumes, and polyphenolics in vegetables. Symptoms of iron deficiency include fatigue, headache, irritability and decreased work performance. For young children, it can lead to impairment in general intelligence, language, motor performance and school readiness. Girls especially need iron after puberty due to blood losses, or if pregnant. Yet studies show 75 percent of teenage girls get less iron than recommended.

there is no such thing as craving meat girlfriend. your body wants the TASTE and TEXTURE of the meat, not the meat itself. try any of these meat substitues: seitan, tofu (many different textures), TVP (textured vegetable protein), tempeh, or any of the premade veggie substitute products by brands like gardenburger, boca, quorn, morningstar farms, lightlife, yves, or amys. these should all be readily available at your local grocer.

If you visit your health food store, or grocer's freezer, you'll find "meat substitute" products that actually do tast quite a lot like meat, such as burgers and "hotdogs". Try them, it might just satisfy that craving!
