If the mother is not treated prior to giving birth. Treatable STD's, like Chlamydia and Gonnorrhea, can be transmitted to the baby through his/her mucous membranes as he/she passes through the birth canal. These can be treated through antibiotics before delivery and should not prevent a natural birth. Untreatable diseases, like HIV and Hepatits, can be transmitted to the baby through birth also ... and due to the risk of blood exposure, a c-section is the best option for these mothers. However, just because the mother has any of these problems does not mean that they will definitely cause problems for the baby.

most of them will be transmitted to the child if the mother is not treated before the birth. If she had prir to conception and had it treated, most likely the baby will not get it ( unless it is herpes or AIDs or somthing that is no curable)
