Filipinos love their food!! Filipino food is influenced by Spanish and Asian cuisine.

The most popular Filipino dishes are:
Lechon (roasted pig)
Adobo (chicken or pork in a sweet, tangy sauce)
Ginataang adobo (seafood, chicken, or pork in an adobo sauce mixed with coconut milk)
Sinigang (fish in a sour broth)
Pinakbet (a vegetable medley made up of green beans, squash, and other great stuff)

You can also try chicharon (friend chicken skin), menudo (ground beef and potatoes in a tomato sauce).

Best Filipino food though is Philippine mangoes!! The taste is uniquely Filipino. Once you try it you're never going to eat other kinds of mangoes again!!

Ever seen lechon? Big ol' roasted pig, just sitting on a table?
The most common Filipino dishes that people know about are lumpia (egg/spring rolls) and adobo.
There's also chicharon, fried pork fat, but that's not exclusively Filipino.

You should try chicken or shrimp adobo, sinigang sugpo (prawns), pancit molo & luglog (if you can find homemade:), store bought is a pasty tasteless mess usually), bangus relleno (one of my very favorites, but alot of work), lumpia shanghai & the fresh one (especially if you can get fresh palm heart or banana blossom!), camarron rellenado, caldereta, and of course the sweets (bibingka, gulaman, leche flan, torrones, & pastillas de casoy:) If you can find fresh langka or caribou mangos...run, don't walk to get some.
Just remember many of these dishes are rich (fats and sugar).

Thank goodness for Filipino friends, especially on the holidays and Filipino Community Day. We get to try everyone's pancit noodles, taste lots of seafood, and this one lady makes a great pineapple and cashew cake. I make persimmon and tamarind cookies and they love my chocolate and walnut fudge. I cannot eat enough limpa . Best of luck to you!!
