I work with a Diabetic Educator. Drug reps leave samples at most physician's offices. Ask your dr. for samples. If they don't have them, maybe they can direct you to a place that does. A lot of our patients bring extra supplies to our clinic for us to give to someone in need, ie. they get a new different machine and have supplies left over from the old one, or their insulin gets changed, they give it to us to give out. Check around and see if you can find something like that in your area.
Good luck.

Most Hospitals have a Social Services program in place, if you need them now. Go to the Emergency room and tell them that you get the strips or there is a good chance you will be using there facility pretty soon. You can also go to the State Welfare Program and tell them your situation and they will give you a Medical Pending Voucher in which you can get your strips with. The only catch is that you have to have a prescription. So you might have to go back to the Emergency room and see a emergency Doctor and get a prescription for the Test Strips.

Walmart has a no frills glucometer with its own brand of test strips. I forget the exact name, something like Bio-tech. You'll see it on their shelves where they keep diabetic stuff.
The strips are around $20 for 50. The meter is around $10.
I bought a unit w/ strips one time when I ran out of strips for my other unit while traveling and it was 3am. You gotta love Walmart for that.
That's a bargain if you don't have insurance. Heck, it's better than many insurance copayments.

If you are eligible or expect to received Social Security Medicare or Medicaid -- depending on your location you will be able to get your diabetic supplies FREE at an EPIC NEIGHBORHOOD Pharmacy.
All you will need is your Dr's Rx indicating the name of your meter and how many times you test daily. The script may be written for a year and must be renewed yearly.
Just present your insurance information and they bill Medicaid directly and there's no co-payments involved if you’re a participant in Medicaid’s program.
All you have to do is sign & go!
Hopefully you are located near an EPIC Rx and entitled to receive help from Medicaid.
Good luck!

Contact your public health department and county hospital to see if they have information on low cost supplies. Call the manufacturer and see if they can help. Look in your phone book or call your local Volunteer Center to see if you have a local Diabetes Society, as sometimes they get donated supplies or know where to get less expensive things. If nothing else works, call all the pharmacies in your area and price the strips so at least you know you're getting the best deal. And then search on line to see if you can find anything cheaper than that.

Go to Target and get their Easy Pro Meter. It only costs $8.99 and the strips are $21 for 50. Thats half the cost of One Touch. One Touch gives meters away like crazy through Doctors offices because they know you will spend a fortune on their strips.

There should be a hotline number,or even a email address on the meter, or the box meter came in. Give them a call and see if they can give you names of who could assist you in getting more strips.
