If her blood glucose is above 120 mg/dl, then she is most definitely diabetic or on her way to becoming one (less than one year until diagnosis).

Do you know exactly what her blood glucose was?

If her extremeties are in pain as you mentioned, she could have diabetic neuropathy. This is a very serious condition that left untreated, could require amputation. 60% of all amputations in the U.S. are diabetes- related.

Again, have her ask her doctor about it, and if she is still frustrated with her doctor, get a new one and new lab tests. Or, if she is on insurance, go to the ER immediately.

If you find that she is diabetic, a great resource is www.diabetes.org with lots of information for newly diagnosed people.

The information you supply is really very vague. Though I am sure it doesn't seem that way to a lay person.
Doctors are human and don't always remember to call. It is OK to call him and ask. She should call. Chances are this pain is not related to diabetes. Your friend should go see her doctor again and address this pain with him.

I would never make a diagnosis of diabetes based on pain.

If she "thinks" she has diabetes she needs to call her doctor asap
Yes, the doctor should of called if her blood sugar level was high, but as we all know, doctors get busy and things get over looked.

Only a doctor can tell her why she is hurting. Only her doctor can tell her if she is diabetic. She needs to call him.

Umm, what does pain in her arm or leg have to do with diabetes? The cardinal symptoms of diabetes are 'excessive thirst not relieved by drinking', 'weight loss', 'sweet-smelling urine', and 'sweet smelling breath'. Feeling poorly and weak are secondary effects. Never heard of pain being a diagnostic criteria.

If she is obese as you say, then her pain can be due to blood clots, or fat obstructing blood flow. Muscles get strained by fat and extra weight being carried as do joints.

A lab calls the MD if the results are out of 'whack' and then the MD calls the patient. THe patient can call the MD office and say "how was my blood work results'' if she wants to know. Start helping your friend begin a program of healthy low calorie eating and a slow walking program.

Good luck.

Tell your friend to Call her Doctor and ask what Tests they did. It sounds like poor circulation and sleeping on the wrong side for to long.

maybe she has other disease rather than diabetes,.. but lab results could also be wrong sometimes.. maybe she should take another test and to see another doctor.
