It is not chip bootie it is a chip butty, and it means a chip sandwich. Americans have just as many dishes like that. The British have some great dishes, you just have not been exposed to many; nor do you know much about the British to say that. I was raised on it.

Of course they have a national cuisine. Ever heard of roast beef and Yorkshire Pud? Fish and Chips? Steamed puddings? I could go on.

Well personally, I live in London and I heard about it before coming here, and I can't say that they proved me wrong!

I think the main reason would be the lack of a national cuisine, and if there are any British dishes they wouldn't be so preferable by International people, or rather, non-British food eating ones!

I also found that the British people are quite easy to satisfy when it comes to food and how good it tastes. Nations who come from certain countries of good food and large cuisines(especially the mediterranean) happen to be more 'picky' about what they eat and when it comes to food they're usually hard to satisfy!

That's my personal theory! I hope it helped or at least made sense :)

They earned that reputation. One of my friends from the UK's favorite sandwich is a "Chip Bootie". Bread, ketchup and french fries. Have you ever seen Iron Chef? Lots of French, Mediterrean, Asian, Cajun styles.. NEVER Wow, this guy is cooking a classically British dish, yum! It's very bland, boiled, starchy food. Oh, another favorite is "Bubble and Squeak", consisting of leftover cabbage and whatever fried.
