I'm 6'2" and weigh 114kg, the results that I managed to remember were 169/94 and 154/94. I'll be going in for a recheck in two weeks time. Would this explain why I've been having palpatations and skipped beats? I don't drink, smoke or do drugs, and no familiy history so why do I have it?
I remember when I was young and fit, I never had a problem and now all this is happening and the only thing that changed since then was my weight.

The weight, sadly, could be the problem - particularly if you have a high body mass and high cholesterol. A lack of exercise and poor diet will create a weight problem and suseqent build-up of fat in the wrong places. Don't despair though, there are good things to eat that can help including porridge, raw red onions and garlic. I'm sure the medical professionals though will point you in the right way. I hope you get it sorted out. Best of luck. :).

You should definitely lose weight as weight plays an important factor in high blood pressure. You know you are putting yourself at risk of a number of diseases eg. diabetes, stroke and heart problems.

Ask your doctor if he can give you a diet plan to follow and what your ideal weight should be.

You say that when you were young you were fit, you need to exercise....start off with lots of walking...keep the walking at a good pace, enough to make you slightly breathless but able to talk. Swimming is an excellent exercise as it tones the whole body and gives you a cardiac work out too.

Many people do not realise that lack of exercise causes more high blood pressure than smoking! (although smoking is also a contributory factor).

If you diet and exercise your blood pressure will come down to within normal limits within a few months.

Let the high blood pressure be a warning to you. At least now, you have a chance to reverse all the effects.

Best wishes.

It could be stress related. I have always had low blood pressure but on the morning of my operation a couple of years ago my blood pressure was on the high side but a couple of weeks after my blood pressure had drop-ed back down to low. So maybe if you have got a stressful job or you may have what is known as white coat hypertension which is a rise in blood pressure when visiting the doctors or hospital. As far as i know their is no definite symptoms of high blood pressure the only way to know of blood pressure is with a monitor. maybe you have a hidden heart condition. sorry don't want to worry you maybe you should get this checked out some more but it is probably harmless the missed beat and the palpitations. I don't know if you know but you should avoid coffee for at least 30 minutes before the reading and empty your bladder as these can affect your blood pressure in the short term.

Your stressing out dude whats going on in your life? Stress brings on a lot of the conditions you described. When you sneeze your heart actually skips a beat. The lower number is the one you have to watch. Pain can increase blood pressure there are just so many things that can cause your problem. Ask your doctor about exercising start out slowly and increase comfortably.Watch taking over the counter drugs some decongestants have Methamphetamines also know as speed, caffine intake can do it. Me personally 5'9" 150lbs from pain i was at stroke range i suffer from chronic pain due to a bad back, the nurse refused to show me the blood pressure readings so i wouldn't get upset on top of everything else. I watch my diet and excersize reguraly to hel;p with the pain and to keep healthy.

You are overweight and that is part of the problem. I lost 80 lbs and went from 130's over 90's to 110's over 60's. It could also be genetic. Go to your doctor and follow his directions. Lose some weight and see if that will do the trick. Take whatever medications he prescribes. If they don't work, there is one more place to check.

High blood pressure is a big problem because of the problems it causes. Work with your doctor to solve it.

You got it in one! Eat a diet rich in whole grains, vegetables, fruit, nuts & seeds, good quality protein. Eliminate processed foods, sugar, caffeine, refined carbohydrates (white bread, pasta, white rice, sugar, sweets, crisps, junk food. Don't aim for five a day, eat at least five a day! You could also supplement with cod liver oil and garlic. Exercise every day even if it is only a brisk half hour walk in your lunch break. You will get healthier, lose weight and your blood pressure will no doubt drop. It can happen really quickly - in as litte as two weeks to start seeing a difference.

duh! You are over weight, and excess of fat on the around the veins makes it difficult for the blood to run, therefore, the heart pumps with more strenght. thats why you have such high blood pressure. You dont have to smoke and drink to have such problems.Overweight, high colesterol, thats enough. It also explains the palpatations and skipped beats. If you feel any intense pain in your left arm, chest pain, tired, tell your doc about this. Maybe, a little exercise and better alimentation (not diet, diets suck alot :-)) can help you decrease your pressure. Good luck and look after yourself!

You are definitely overweight and it could be one of the reasons your BP is high.Stress is another cause.Your BP will be monitored by your Doc regularly.Your lifestyle will have to change, you should drop SALT and FAT from your diet and get your weight down.If after doing this your BP is still high, you will be put on medication which will bring it down......I was diagnosed with High BP (200/98)five years ago and after changing my lifestyle and diet together with the aid of medication my BP is now(114/66 last time my doc monitored it.

Your weight and stress can mess with your blood pressure. I take medication for high BP. You could also work on some things to lower your weight and BP. Good luck.
