Today I ran a mile, which at the end of the school year we have to run 4. Everytime I run, I have always had breathing proplems--but not to the point of what happen today. btw, I have been running almost every week (or every other week) since september just to tell I am not just lazy or out of shape. I talked to my docter in september, and she said I should just wait and see if it get wroses (she thinks that I might have it)

Today was weird. I could only barly breath... It was horrible. I had horrible weezing. Right after it, I was coughing up so much mucus . I am still coughing up a bit, even though it has been like 2 or 3 hours since the run....I don't know what to do, it was really scary. It was cold outside, I heard that it sometimes causes it.... I am seeing my docter next week or something...

If anyone knows, or does reserch will REALLY help me, thanks

sounds like it. an asthma attack can be serious. you probably should have called EMS. if you can't breathe you die! but even if you do have exercise induced asthma it doesn't mean you can't run. just take it easier. get a heart rate monitor and keep track of your heart rate while you are running. try to keep it between 60 to 70% of max. to figure your max heart rate for women it's 208 less .9 times your age. 208 - .9(age) or for a man it's 209 same. also you said you were running every week. surely you run more than once a week. you need to be running at least three times a week. just take it easy. as for the heart rate monitor. any sporting goods store will have one. Wal Mart even carries the Polar brand basic monitor for about forty bucks.

You might have it. I was always athletic when I was in middle and high school and never had any breathing problems, but then all of the sudden in my senior year I started having those same problems you are talking about. My chest got really tight and I couldnt breathe in very far, my airway felt all clogged up with stuff and I couldn't stop coughing for the rest of the day. I went to the doctor they did tests and he said it was exercise induced asthma and gave me an inhaler. He said it can present itself at any time durring your life, not just when you are little kid. It's easy to deal with though, all you have to do is puff an inhaler before you exercise. I would go see your doctor.

You should make sure that you see your doctor. Wheezing is not normal and can be a sign of asthma. The phlegm could be coming from your sinus (drainage). It is best to have a thorough check up.

This certainly sounds like exercise induced asthma. If this doctor cannot diagnose it, then go to a pulmonologist. This can be dangerous if ignored.

Frigid air can absolutely effect your breathing.
Your lungs like the warmth.
