I have recently quit drinking and I am craving chocolate all the time. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Yes - you have been feeding sugar to the yeast in your intestines and it is craving it. There is supposed to be an ample supply of good bacteria in your system which gets overrun when you are ingesting lots of sugar, you may experience "die off". Mild die off is noted by gas and farts, more severe can cause cramps and pain. There are products that can help to get your system back in balance (if you are looking to speed it up), I have used several the one I remember its name is "candex". With or with out helping to kill off the bad bacteria there are also probiotics to help bring your system up to more healthy (found in health food stores).

It is normal to crave sugar when you stop drinking. There is a lot of sugar in alcohol.

Also, your body is looking for something to take the place of the alcohol addiction. While chocolate is a better substance to be addicted to than alcohol, you might want to try substituting something like exercise so that you have a healthy "addiction" to take the place of alcohol.

Oh yes, this is perfectly normal, because as we all know alcohol turns to sugar, and so without your body getting it now, your body will want it through other sources........And I highly recommend the "Dark Chocolates!!!" They have proven them to be much healthier than milk chocolate!!! And its loaded with antioxidants!! Which are really good for your cardiovascular system!! So, eat away!! But in MODERATION!!! You know, everything should always be in moderation..... Happy Eating to you & Congratulations are in order, for your sobriety!!! You Just Go Guy!!! Smile!!!
