I'm vegetarian and eat nuts to get some protein. Most are like 17 grams of fat. That seems really high. How can a plant produce so much fat?

well if the nuts are roasted then they will be fattier.

Try raw nuts instead.
Ands its not all bad fat.
And if you are vegitarian you are probably not getting enough fat, because you would normally get that from a meat.

It's okay that you are getting fat from nuts since it is monosaturated fat, just don't make every meal of the day nuts. You can also eat beans and green, leafy vegetables as another source of protein.

Not all fat is bad. There are good fats and bad fats. The good fats in nuts keep your skin healthy and lower your cholesterol.

nuts ARE high in fat but im told its the good fats like olive oil and avacado so its good 4 u

Yes nuts are fattening which is why they are not included as staples like grains and beans. But they are important in their own right and in decent amounts very good for you.

The buzzword nowadays is "detox", not lo-cal, and I swear by Dr Joshi's Detox Diet. Dr Joshi, in case you haven't heard of him, is the diet doctor of people like Gwyneth Paltrow and Elle McPherson.

The diet is based on healthy options and avoidance of food allergies and is designed to clean our your digestive system and keep it clean.

It includes nuts and seeds and excludes caffeine, carbonated drinks (even diet ones), gluten, lactose (dairy), yeast and red meat for the first couple of weeks. It should be ideal for you if you are a veggie, although if you do eat chicken and fish these are allowed on the diet after the initial detox (two weeks).

It isn't macrobiotic, although the first two weeks is carb-free (no pasta, white rice, potatoes, bananas or avocados), you are allowed to gradually introduce these back into the diet.

Let me say that I am crap at dieting and lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks on Dr Joshi's plan, and whenever I am feeling fat and bloated do the detox diet not just to lose inches but feel better. Nuts, seeds and dried fruits are recommended "snacks" on the diet; also recommended are gluten-free cereals (breads, breakfast cereals, etc) made from oats, rye, corn, etc.

It's mono-unsaturated fat and it's good for you.
