Have a big roast dinner - it's cheaper than you think. You can have a a large leg of lamb, or some pork, and serve with roast, mash & new potatoes. Add some carrots, green veg and a cauliflower cheese and you've got plenty for everyone. Don't forget gravy and sauces (mint/redcurrant/apple). For dessert make pint glass trifles - take a pint glass, pop in a bit of sponge cake and fruit, add some jelly and then top with custard and cream - a bit gross, but lots of fun if you try to colour co -ordinate it and two can share one pint!! While you are waiting to serve up the roast - serve fake champagne cocktails:
put an sugar cube in a glass, add a couple of drops of agnostura bitters (you can get a small bottle at large supermarkets or an off-license) a small measure of brandy, and add really cold cava (dry white sparkling wine) finish off with a slice of orange. If you can frost and chill the glasses first, even better! Don't have a first course, it'll kill the appetite for the main course which will be quite filling. Just serve some small crispy things with the cocktails. Hope you have a great evening!!!

Cheap and fun meal ideas - make your own pizzas. Get a mini pizza base for each of your friends and put out bowls of toppings - every one can make their own.
Chocolate fondue - melt chocolate in a bowl, gets some forks and put out bowls of marshmallows, grapes, strawberries to dip.
One of my friends had alco-food for her 18th; basically everyone who came had to bring something to eat that contained alcohol! So Coq-au-vin, beef and ale pie, liquer chocolates etc!
Things to do - a DVD night of films from your birthyear, or maybe have a party in your garden playing tunes from the year you were born.
Or have an authentic kids party - complete with pass the parcel, musical statues etc - it will be lots of fun, especially if you're all a bit drunk too!
Hope this helps.
