Can you do this??? I just went to the doctors today and he put me on an antibiotic for a respiratory infection. The problem is, I am a raging alcoholic and need to drink. It has been a real long week at the office, and I do not feel like waking up with a case of the shakes tomorrow morning because I didn't drink tonight. Let me know!!!!

Take the antibotics, have a drink, and you will be fine. I take antibotics, drink, and I am fine. They will work.

Whether or not the antibiotic is affected by alcohol use depends on the specific antibiotic. However, a good general rule of thumb is to avoid alcohol while on antibiotics because it reduces the effects of the med.
As far as your alcoholism, if you are able to admit that you are one, are you also willing to do something about it? Right now you're concerned with an antibiotic but you must know how pervasive the effects of alcoholism are. It affects your health and every aspect of your life.
You say you need to drink, and I understand that, but you also need to live. The two are not compatible. Make a decision.

Dont mix the two. Either quit drinking for a week or two or stop taking the antibiotics. Up to you. Good luck!

If you're going to drink, then don't take the antibiotics they wont work. You can have a drink with some but moderation is the key word;

I can assure you drinking with antibiotics will not wake you with the shakes. It can KILL you. They provide warning labels on the bottle...read them carefully. Perhaps it's times you put down the alcohol permanently.

My question: if you are able to admit you're an alcoholic, why don't you stop? AA can really help.

you drink, and you WON'T get rid of your illness, take your pick, either stay of the "SAUCE' or pay the "PIPER" your choice!! it is up to you, AND I"LL bet you have NO guts to defy YOUR CRAVINGS!!
