I've been sexual active since I'm 17 1/2, I married my husband when I was 18, I know for sure we have only been with each other all this time, I'm 24 now, and I had my pap smear done last month and for the first time it came adnormal, possible high-risk HPV. My husband and I swear to each other that we haven't had sex with other people, and I really trust him, I know his telling me the truth. I frequently have vaginal infections, but all my pap smears have come normal for 7 years in a row, what are the odds of me getting the virus without my husband having an affair?

HPV can be transmitted in many different ways (hand shakes, skin to skin, intercourse, orally, and anally) men never know if they have it. You need to have a biopsy done and then if needed you need to get a leep done. I know what you are going through, I'm 24 and HPV positive had biopsy done Aug 2005 came back fine but in Jul 2006 pap cam back bad. had biopsy came back really bad had leep CIN 3 cancer 0 (only detected on top layer of cells on cervix. I then mad the choice to have a hyst done. I have 2 kids and my tubes were toyed so It was no big deal. At this time if I were you I would get the HPV vaccine gardacil It will still help with the other strands. But I don't want you to worry about the tests they are your best defence against going crazy. Talk to your husband and see if he had any contact with any other woman. HPV is transmitted through vaginal, anal, and oral sex and can be transmitted by skin-to-skin genital contact or rubbing.

But don't jump the gun, the Pap smear is not saying that it is in fact HPV 100%, it could be a false postive or something else could be causing the atypia and you would need to do a repeat and seek treatment if it is infact positive, after talking to your husband.
