If I had a fasting of 104 at a doctors appointment, and the doctor decided not go further until later calling me and telling me to test for 30 days at home and give him a log what is he indicating? Is is suspective or is it precautionary?

It sounds like your doctor wants to watch the trends in your blood sugars, which is wise. A hemaglobin A1c could also be helpful.

I would say it is a bit of both....

The first question is history -- do you have a family history of diabetes? Do you currently have it and/or are taking medication to control it?

If your fasting blood sugar level is 100 mg/dL to 125 mg/dL, you have impaired fasting glucose — commonly known as prediabetes. To confirm the diagnosis, your doctor may repeat the fasting blood sugar test several days to a week later.

Pre-diabetes is when blood glucose levels that are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes.
Research has shown that if you take action to manage your blood glucose when you have pre-diabetes, you can delay or prevent type 2 diabetes from ever developing.

It sounds like hes checking you for diabetes.Keep a log of what you eat and what times of day you are eating it.Nothing to worry about trust me.I found out I have type 2 diabetes and there is nothing that is a big deal about it.Just watch what you eat.104 is not bad so don't worry. If you do have type 2 at least they caught it early enough. There is alot of products today for people who do have diabetes even chocolate!

I agree with Doc8 100%. However, if you do give your doctor your numbers, make sure that you are checking your blood sugar at the right intervals: fasting in the am before eating anything, no sooner than 2 hours after eating, and before bed.

Best of health to you and yours.

Precautionary.. though they are tightening there levels of diabetes blood sugar levels this is a good fasting level. anything below 120 -125 depending on your resource your looking at is acceptable, so test feel good it will probably make you more aware of your dietary habits
