Pleather, metal, rubber and latex are all animal free. You don't need leather to be kinky. Many bondage gear companies are doing more "quick release" restraints, velcro and nylon mesh. "cruelty" free but just as fun. Rubber flogers are not too new but neat, soft at times with just the right amount of sting.
