so it started out with what i thought was a sinus infection on the 5th. nice thick mucus, ears were plugged, headache, the usual. i took everything under the sun (otc) and in about 1.5 weeks, it turned into a cough. i've had the cough ever since. at first it was productive, so i just thought it had to do with all the drainage, but now its pretty much a dry hacking cough and no cough meds are working, its keeping me up all night and it just makes me want to die. i've never had bronchitis before, but from everything i'm reading it just says rest, lots of fluids, and maybe some cough meds if its non-productive. it also says if you're a smoker to quit. well, i did quit, up until last thursday when i broke down and bought a pack (i was good for a week), but then i finished that pack on tuesday and havent smoked since, but my bf is a heavy smoker. i'm only around him for a few hours a day, and i drink 6 glasses of water a day, plus i've been taking cough meds. but at night its so...

I believe you have bronchitis also. The reason I know this is because I just got over it. I can give you some OTC suggestions. But if your a smoker thats not going to help it at all. I had to go to the doctor and she put me on a strong antibiotic. I believe Amoxicillin 875mg 4 a day. Just to get rid of it. But, what I was thinking is call your doctor and tell them your symptoms and how long it has been lasting and see if they can't just call in a prescription to the pharmacy instead of having to make an appointment to see them. Some doctors might want to because they might be concerned you could have it going into pneumonia. Does your chest hurt when you cough? Thats a good clue or if you feel that your lungs might have fluid. Make an appt. if they won't call anything in though. Eventually you'll probably have to see them unless this goes away on its own. Which now it could start becoming bacterial infection. OTC you can try for the cough is Delsym (orange bottle, box) Mucinex also to break up the phlegm and good keep drinking the fluids. Start to drink OJ for Vit-C to help build your immune system. Hope it helps! Good Luck

I once suffered from Chronic Bronchitis. I would suffer sometimes 3 to 4 times per year! Usually when there was a major change in the pressure outside (I live in the north, and the temperature spikes and dips do wonders to chronic sufferers of bronchitis!). Each time I would get horrible hacking coughs, hoarking up green phlegm..it was so frustrating!

The key to getting rid of your bronchitis is to find a way to completely eliminate the germs that are causing all the phlegm and irritation leading to your hoarking cough and heavy breathing. Keep reading to learn how to do kill these germs!!

Have you tried drugs like Mucinex or something similar. It will help remove the congestion in your lungs hopefully helping you get over your respiratory issues. I would go to the pharmacy and ask them what otc's are similar, their a good source and you don't have to make an appointment. Good luck on getting over it.

It could be bronchitis, you do need to STOP smoking. You might need an antibiotic ( Zithromax ) and Mucinex DM ( expectorant and cough suppressant ). Good luck and go see a doctor.

URI (upper Respretory Infection), you should tell the Dr office that it's an emergency, and you need to see the doc. YOU need anti-biotics.

sounds like you have respiratory infection..which I have had on several occasions.....more than likely you will not get over this without an antibiotic......don't put off going to the doctor or it could go into pneumonia...which you don't want to happen..think its bad now......I darn near died putting it off one time...

Go to your doctor or ER....don't take a chance on getting worse..been there done this.....
