My first boyfriend used to get cold sores on his mouth. One night we engaged in uprotected oral sex. He did not have symptoms, nor pre cursor symptoms of getting a cold sore at that time. A week later I had a classic yeast infection (which I have had before). It was cured with monistat. We have broken up about 3 months ago. Now I have a little bit of itching, a little bit of redness.... that's it. No bilsters (there was no blisters during the yeast infection either) is this herpes? what's the likelihood of this being herpes? I'm going to the doctor tomorrow but I'm just freaking out a little. My ex told me that he never gave herpes to a girl before that way (because I freaked a little when I got the yeast infection). A little support please.

Well I must emphasize that he did NOT have a cold sore when he performed oral sex.

My question is related to asymptomatic shedding of HSV 1.

It sounds like it is just irritation from the yeast infection, this happened to me one time and that is what it was. I think that if it was herpes you would have blisters. Most likely you would not catch herpes from a boyfriend giving you oral unless he was having an outbreak at the time he was giving it to you. My husband gets cold sores and I have never had any problems. We avoid kissing or any contact when he has them. Good luck I am sure that it is just a yeast infection.

The same thing happened to my sister about a month ago and she now has the Herpes virus.

Her boyfriend had a simple cold sore on his mouth (whihc turned out to be Herpes Simplex) and gave her oral sex. My sister woke up one morning and thought she had a really bad yeast infection. She was swollen, in a lot of pain and was itching. She did not have any visible sores. She went to the doctor, but was in so much pain the doctor did not perform a check-up. He gave her some medeication agreed that it was a bad yeast infection and sent her on her way. About a month later the same thing happened to her again. She went back to the doctor he did some tests and a week later called and told her that she had the Herpes Virus!

Now although it was Herpes Simplex and he had it on her mouth because he passed it to her genital area she now has gential herpes which she can pass on. Neither of them had any idea that this could happen from a simple cold sore and now she had herpes for life. The sad thing is that they always had protected intercourse so he does not have the virus.

Genital herpes is a contagious disease caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV), which infects the skin and mucous membranes of the genitals and around the rectum. It is transmitted by physical and sexual contact.Herpes appears as redness and small watery blisters on the genitals. It may be accompanied by pain, itching and burning. The blisters will burst and turn into small ulcers, which will heal after two to three weeks without scarring.Genital herpes is primarily a sexually transmitted disease.A cold sore can also infect the genitals through oral sex.The virus is still contagious and can be passed on even if there are no blisters or ulcers present. The first eruption of herpes will appear four to seven days after the time of infection. The first sign is an uncomfortable prickly and piercing sensation. This will be followed after a couple of hours or up to two days later by small blisters on the skin. The blisters will turn into small ulcers in two to three weeks. The first outbreak of genital herpes will cause the most noticeable symptoms. Some people will have very weak symptoms or none at all. Others will experience fever, muscular pains and headaches along with a burning and itching pain in the genitals and around the rectum. There can be considerable discomfort on passing urine, which patients describe as feeling different to cystitis (bladder infection).Recurrent outbreaks of genital herpes will typically be milder than the first.

There are two different kinds of Herpes. Read up on both. Chances are the herpes he had on his lips was not the same as what you are afraid of contracting. Itching and redness can be a lot of things and even other STD's. Go get checked out.

Well I get cold sores. I didn't catch them from sex, I've been getting them since I was a little kid. I've preformed oral sex on my husband many times and he's never caught it from me. Of course, I wouldn't do it if I had a cold sore at the time. If he didn't have a cold sore, I'd say you're probably safe, but it is possible I suppose.
