Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD's)
Oral Sex and STD's

"How great is the risk of contracting AIDS or the virus which brings on AIDS [HIV] by having oral sex with a female person?
Is there a device on the market that can be use by both men and women when performing oral sex?

If so can it be purchased over the counter?"

Kim Martyn:
This is a good questions about the risk of STD's (sexually transmitted diseases) and oral sex. In Canada, we follow a 'risk reduction' guideline. If people are not ready for intercourse but want to give each other orgasms and pleasure, oral sex is a good solution.

Some STD's can be passed on orally, but it's a low risk. If a male or female has herpies or gential warts, they can pass it on. There have been some (although very few) cases of HIV which were contracted by the receiving partner during fellatio. Other bacterial STD's can infect the throat.

What do you do?

Get a look a a person's genitals before playing with them.
For oral sex on a guy, use a condom for maximum protection.
If a condom isn't used, don't let semen enter the mouth.
Don't go down on a woman if she is menstruating.
For maximum protection during cunninglingus (on a woman) you can cut a condom along the side and lay it over the vulva to act as a barrier between your mouth and her genitals

Yes. If the giver has a cold sore around the mouth, he/she can pass herpes to the recipient. Other STDs can live in the mouth, it's warm and moist.

yes, all of them...HIV, gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia, herpes, genital warts...and the list goes on...

if you must do oral sex on someone that you are not completely sure of, make him wear a condom...if he gives you a load of crap...then he doesn't care about his health either and all he wants is instant gratification
