That would be an exercise stress test. There will be electrocardiograms taken before, during and after exercise (most likely on a treadmill or stationary bicycle).
They want to rule out that there's any problem that would only come out when the heart is under duress. Apparantly the resting ecg (same as ekg) did not resolve the clinical question that was behind your visit.
Another test that might be folded in would be to have an echocardiogram taken at the same time as the stress test. This can yield even higher sensitivity for certain cardiac issues.
Another additional thing that might happen would be in certain cardiac problems and with post-menopausal female patients, you might need to have a radioisotope injected and lay under a camera in nuclear medicine for imaging.
Finally, exercise can be replaced in certain circumstances with a pharmaceutical stress exam, usually with dobutamine. Your physician will discuss these options with you when your diagnostic course is decided on.

It stands for "exercise stress test", which is also called a "treadmill test". This will help the doctor find out how well your heart is working.
During an exercise test you will be hooked up to the equipment to monitor your heart. You will slowly walk in place on the treadmill and then the speed of the treadmill is slowly increased. You may be asked to breathe in a tube and if you feel weird, you can ask the doctor to stop the test. Afterwards, the doctor will monitor your vital signs and your heart.
This test is generally perform to check for but not limited to: coronary artery disease, to determine a safe level of exercise for certain individuals, to diagnose or find heart-related illnesses due to specific symptoms, or to predict your risk of having a heart attack.

If you are a woman, ask that your exercise stress test be either a nuclear or stress echo. Plain exercise stress tests for women frequently give false negatives or positives. the nuclear CT stress or stress echo give more accurate feedback.
