It is from the HIV virus. Ill explain it simply, you can not catch it like a cold, so I don't want you to scream or run away from a person if they tell you they have AIDS. You can get it from sharing blood with a person with HIV, or having oral, anal or regular sex. (sry, just being frank) You can not get AIDS from kissing even, so you can keep a boyfriend who has AIDs, just dont have sex.

You must be very young, and I'm shocked no one has told you.

AIDS stands for Advanced Immuo-Deficiency Syndrome. It's the condition caused by the HIV virus. It showed up in the late 70s and early 80s, and it attacks your immune system, making it so that any bacteria can be potentially lethal. Your body loses the ability to fight off infection and disease. A cold can kill you if you have AIDS. It is transmitted by having sex with someone who has HIV in their body. Condoms can help prevent this transmission, but not always.

People all over the world are HIV positive, especially in Africa, where there are few people who use condoms and poor healthcare and poor education. AIDS used to be associated with gay people, but it has proven to be a disease that affects all people of all ages and sexual habits.

Just because a person is HIV positive doesn't mean they have AIDS, but eventually they probably will.

People die very young from this disease, but better medicines are available all the time to help them live longer, but there is no cure yet. People with AIDS need to be treated like normal people. You can not catch it unless you have sex with an infected person. People who have HIV often don't know they have it for years until it develops into AIDS.

Does this answer your question? You can get more info from a doctor, nurse, etc. Red Cross.

How you get it? you can get it in many ways, interchange of body fluids like unprotected sex, blood transfussions, contact with some infected person wounds and then one in you... sharing the same sringe when using drugs...

AIDS stands for Aquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.. and what happens is... What you get first is the virus the HIV (human immune-deficiency virus) this nasty virus destructs your Immune system, making it unable to fight against ANY bacteria or virus... NOW you have AIDS, your body has no defense anymore, so a simple cold could kill you... a simple cut on a finger could get sooo bad you could die from it... the simple fact of existence in this world is dangerous cause as you might know we are surrounded by bacteria and viruses but our bodies always have protection because our immune systems work great.

What it means to have AIDS is that you are HIV positive and your CD4+ T cell count drops below 200 per microLiter of blood. CD4 Tcells are the cells of your immune system that attack foreign bodies that the body has and doesnt have antibodies against. So when HIV destroys enough of these cells you are diagnosed with AIDS, instead of simply being HIV positive. AIDS patients die of diseases that nonimmune compromised people dont get. While they can die from a simple cold, they usually die from pneumonia, cancers, or other AIDS related common diseases. In addition to the ways to contract AIDS already mentioned, it can be passed from mother to child if the mother is infected before birth.

You get sick, AIDS destroys your immune system, you cannot fight off infections. People do not die from AIDS itsself, they die from diseases that healthy people can fight off like respiratory infections. You get AIDS from the blood and body fluid of those infected with HIV. There is a high prevelance in IV drug users and those who engage in unprotected sex. You cannot get HIV or AIDS from casual contact such as sharing utensils, shaking hands or sneezing. It is great that you are educationg yourself. It is unfortnuate in this day and age that HIV and AIDS has been around for 20 + years and we do not have a cure and some have no idea about it.
