I was a vegitarian for a very long time until I was a vegan but after a while of that I gave it all up. I only quit because my family decided to pretty much make me fend for myself because they didn't stand for my decisions to not eat meat. Is it ok to be apart of Peta and still protest against animal slaughter/cruilty even though I eat meat?

Sure it's okay. I was against animal cruelty LONG before I became a vegetarian.

If you gave it up because of your family... what about just going back to plain vegetarianism (as opposed to veganism). Being vegan is a very difficult way of life... especially if you're dependent on your parents still. Being vegetarian is a lot easier. I've only been veggie for 2 years and I could never go back to eating meat.

But anyway... I think it's totally okay to oppose cruelty and inhumane slaughter while still eating meat. I doubt the world will ever be completely vegetarian... animals will always die for food. They should at least have the dignity of living decent lives and being slaughtered without suffering. And YES... I KNOW there is no "humane slaughter"... but still... we can only do what we can. It will never end, so we might as well fight for better conditions for the animals while they're alive, and that they at least die quickly and aren't butchered alive.

Of course you can sweetheart. Here is something to think about, people who follow a Kashrut (Kosher) diet only eat meat that is (pardon the term)exterminated following Kosher laws. Meaning? All animals are killed in a humane way--the neck is slit, and the animal loses consciousness within three seconds. Not quite the same as the horrible things that go on in Slaughterhouses, which since you mention PETA I am sure you are well aware of.....Kosher animals also live in different conditions.....

Do not listen to anyone who tells you that you are being contradictory by preaching animal rights and not being "vegan" or "vegetarian" The world could use more meat eaters like you, darling.

It seems to me you don't know what your beliefs are.

Why would you quit on being vegan just because you had to fend for yourself.

where is the comitment ?

I think you need to figure out what you core life beliefs are, and then see if that fits in with PETAs beliefs.

If you were at a protest, would you feel comfortable shouting out "i eat meat and help pay for this abuse" If not, perhaps you shouldn't be there.

Make no mistake and be very clear - by buying and eating meat you are paying for that abuse. The only way it will change is if you vote with your wallet.

Saying you are against something counts for nothing if your actions show otherwise.

ABSOLUTELY! Imagine what a difference we could make if everyone did just a little bit! We don't get so far with the few, the proud and the mighty. But if everyone joined in and just squawked a little, we could make a big change.

Don't feel bad. Do what you can. Raise awareness. And if people look down on you, just smile at them. Don't get upset. Just smile.

Kudos to you for even considering it. Encourage your family to at least purchase organic meat. Hopefully from a farmer's market so you know it's not from a factory farm where billions of animals are slaughtered each year.

if you do still protest animal slaughter I sure hope you don't get in a debate with anyone about it, because you would not have a leg to stand on. What your proposing is like someone driving a Hummer saying that they are for environmental protection, or better yet, George Bush saying he's for environmental protection. It makes no sense, and you become a walking contradiction. However your welcome to do whatever you feel right doing.

P.S. You sure got some feel good, touchy feely responses above. At least you'll feel good about being an informed part of the death of animals wile claiming to be against it.

it's great that you're still speaking out against animal cruelty, but just to warn you if people find out you eat meat, they may be upset and call you hypocritical or fake. i encourage you to become a vegetarian again; i know it's hard when you don't have your family's support, but you need to show them how important this is to you! if you would rather not be a vegetarian that's fine, just expect a lot of criticism.

human beings do protest the killing & intake of animals. Ever heard of PETA? There are numerous animal rights activist communities accessible. yet, what's the coorelation between comparable-intercourse marriage and animals?

Wow, thank you and I admire you for being so compassionate despite giving up your vegetarian diet.

My family didn't want me to go vegetarian, either, so my solution was to start cooking my own food. Maybe someday you will find your way back.

Good luck!
