Other societies around the world have no qualms about utilizing insects as either an occasional nutritional addition and, sometimes, as a survival food. I came across a article on the Internet in which the writer relates having served in the African country of Ghana for many years in the field of agricultural research. At the time of spring planting the people would be very weak from a lack of staple food crops. Fortunately for them the first spring rains also stimulated the emergence of countless numbers of winged termites. The natives gathered these and ate them fried, roasted and ground into a nutritious flour. It was these bounties of termites that in lean years would spell the difference in survival and starvation. Termites are very high in proteins, fats and oils, all essential constituents of a nutritious diet. Ghana is in West Africa, while in East Africa individual mounds are often claimed by families as their own and passed down to their children. Along with termites, crickets and grasshoppers are eaten whole, roasted or ground into flour. He went on to say that in Zimbabwe stores, dried Mopane worms, a type of caterpillar could be purchased while Nigeria was producing "stock" cubes from termites and in North Africa, locust eggs were mixed with flour to bake bread. Ants and beetle grubs are also popularly eaten insects.

I had a friend from Nigeria who said they have huge crickets there and they roast them in a fire. He said they are "very good" and they are yellow like an egg yolk inside...he also spoke of eating python snakes in soup and eating lions before they at him.I guess they don't have Pizza Hut and Taco Bell there??
Oh, yeah they do say some food dyes are made from bugs (rosy grapefruit drink) and I read somewhere that everytime you put on red lipstick, you are kissing a bug (from the dye). Everytime you lick an envelope or a stamp I read you are kissing a cockroach (because they love to eat glue).
Also in South America and some places they are said to sometimes eat chocolate covered grasshoppers and ants. (They are said to have a lot of protein in their exoskeleton).
And there is a certain amount of bug particles that the U.S. FDA allows in foods (ie canned foods, but I think in any food).

Assuming you are in America, indeed they do; there are many tasty insects eaten by other nations.
You might be surprised (horrified?) to learn that YOU eat roasted bugs all the time! It is not possible to harvest pulses & grains without capturing bugs, so all products made with wheat, rice or corn ALWAYS contain bug parts!

What a halarious question and a sad commentary on our education system!
When you say other countries, who are you talking about? In this forum, if we are the the 'other' then who are we?
People all over the globe eat bugs and this will be increasingly popular overtime and in at least 20 years it will be common place and likely essential to survival.

MOST PEOPLE eat bugs and dont even know it! cochlear beetles are roasted and turned into red food coloring. Many artificial colors are made from bugs. So, most unsuspecting people eat them several times a day and dont even know it! If you eat processed food or soda or drink that contain any food color-you are EATING ROASTED BUGS!!!!
