Asthma or anxiety!! If it is asthma, you will need a doctor to get proper meds so it doesn't happen, and something serious doesn't happen to you!! And if it is anxiety, if you don't like doctors you can get xanax on the "street" (and by streets I mean from a drug dealer), but a doctor should prescribe it, and diagnose it!! Also shortness of breath can be a symptom of another serious underlying cause!! Good luck.... and I know you said not to tell you to go to the doctors!! But I think it would be best for you........ I just don't want it to be something serious and blow it off, cuz it is not a 'in your face' symptom, ya know! I can't tell ya how many times I have known people to blow off a symptom and have it be VERY serious (ex. a girlfriend of mine had prolonged cramps... dismissed it..... turned out she had to a hysterectomy , but it could have been avoided if she had went to the doctors right away)! Good luck ;)

You might be having an asthma attack.
I used to be asthmatic. Do this trick a doctor once told me when I would get attacks. Form your hand into a fist but don't clench it tight. You should be making a small hollow inside your hand. Your index finger should be curled up creating a small hole. Blow into this with short, strong outbursts of breath. Make sure your pinky is cleched tight so your breath won't come out on the other side.
I can't recommend or prescribe any medication since I'm not a doctor. I hate to say this but you have to go to the doctor. Please.

There are many things it could be but chief among these are Asthma, Infections and more rarely but a major concern, Cystic Fibrosis. All of these conditions can be treated to a varying level of degrees by modern medicine.
See a doctor and he can determine your condition better.
CF can be diagnosed with a sweat test.
Asthma can be diagnosed by listening to your lungs
Infection and even Cancer can be diagnosed with a chest X-Ray.
There is also the possibility that this is an Anxiety related response, but only a doctor can determine your needs and diagnosis.

It sound like asthma. I had very similar problems a few months ago, it was really hard to take a deep breath, and i was diagnosed with asthma. I got an inhaler to use when the problem occurs and it works instantly to open up my airways. See your Doctor asap! Asthma can be very serious if not taken care of.

Since breathing is a vital function, GO to the Doctor immediately!
Sounds like you could have asthma. I used to think that asthma attacks merely happened during activities, but since my son has been diagnosed with asthma I have learned that MANY of his attacks come in the middle of the night!

It sounds like asthma. You should go to the doctors and have a checkup. My 12 yr old daughter is asthmatic since she was 4yrs old. What my daughter does before doing p.e at school is that she inhales a few puffs of ventolin before doing pe and before going to bed she takes a tablet called singulair. If it is asthma the doctor will controll it don't worry.

Please go to the Dr. and get your oxygen leave done. It is a very easy test they put this Little thing on your index finger and have you breath normally, if you are under the number 92 you may be placed on oxygen and or inhalers
You could have any number of breathing decease we can't diagnose for you only a DR. can do that. .

I agree with Miss Moo, and want to add, you need to try and not get anxious or stressed when the attacks occur, it will make things worse, try to not freak out and be scared, it elevates the heart rate and blood pressure, and DO get to a DR.!!!!!!
