I'm 34, 5', 125 lbs. I don't smoke, drink a little. The past few months or so every once in awhile it feels like my heart is flipping over. It beats super hard. It happens most at night when I'm resting. My blood pressure is a little high but not high enough for medicine. My pulse as been high lately. I'm under some stress but the same amount that I have been for months. It has been increasing in frequency lately and sometimes it's hard to catch my breath right when it's happeneing. I felt a little lightheaded the other night but I'm not sure if that's because I got scared. Anyone have any ideas?

palpitations are common in an anxiety attack. Sounds like that may be your culprit. Many people awaken at night feeling short of breath, fluttering in their heart, and racing pulse. Stress can cause then although some people are more prone to have them than others. Thats not to say that nothing truly couldnt be wrong with your heart. Try coughing really hard the next time the flutters start. The coughing increases intrathoracic pressure and "squeezes your heart" so to say, into stopping the palpitations. If you notice relief from this, it could be what is called PAC's which is a premature beat in the atria of your heart. It is benign and will not normally be treated with meds unless you are symptomatic a lot.. I have PAC's several times a day. (Im 32, and ive had them for 7 years.) Good luck to you. It would be wise to follow up with a doc, but I dont think its anything serious. If you have a family history of heart disease and some other precipitating factors, then I would seek medical attention. Try not to worry so much about it. I think its fine to be honest with you.

You need to see a doctor asap. Yahoo questions is not where you will find your diagnosis. Shut down the computer and head straight to the doctor and if your doctor doesn't take walk ins then go to the emergency room and inform them of whats going on. Your heart is your battery and if that stops working then there will be no more you. I am not trying to scare you but this is very serious. They will give you an EKG to monitor your heart. Make sure to be truthful to them so that they can know exactly whats going on. Good Luck!

Palpitations. It isn't unusual to have palpitations at night when you're resting (I'm not saying it's normal). You are more aware of your heart beating when you're doing nothing (palpitation just mean being aware of your own heartbeat after all), and when you're lying down your heart is closer to the chest wall. However, it can be caused by a lot of other factors as well. Caffeine will make your heart beating faster and stronger. Heart disease can be the cause too. So as anxiety. better to get it checked up though.

See a Doctor. Heart could be going into atrial fib, or just racing to fast, either way you need a Doctor.

Have you seen a doctor? This sounds serious. The internet is no place to get advice on this.
