If you have Type 1 diabetes (the severe rarer non-preventable kind that always requires insulin shots and is usually first diagnosed in children), the answer is NO. There is nothing currently that can treat this form aside from insulin, no matter what you read or hear. There are experimental transplants, but they have severe side effects and do not work for long.

If you have Type 2 diabetes (the common kind related to obesity), then you can usually manage it very well with diet and exercise in many cases. Many (but not all) people with Type 2 can have normal blood sugars and stay off medication if they lose weight and follow a healthy lifestyle.

NO! There is no cure for a Type one I really don't know anything about Type two but I doubt it. The pancreas transplant is NOT a cure I had one and was in and out of the hospital for 2 years with37 different rejection episodes then on the 37 finally rejected and you take a lot of toxic meds to keep your body from rejecting an organ that is not yours and your body knows it. Control with a pump or insulin injections, proper diet and exercise will control it and right now that's all we have. Keep the faith though when I took it 33 years ago they were not half as advanced as they are now. They WILL do it someday!

Once, you're diagnosed with Diabetes;you'll always be a diabetic. However, DM can be regulated with proper diet and medicines. You can learn to live with it. You can exercise properly and lose weight. As there's a stong connection between Obesity and DM. The hormone leptin is produced by the fat cells. And the extra weight makes the sugars stored in the tissues and cells ; to be more resistant for breakdown by the circulating insulin.

Do you know that Mary Tyler Moore and Halle Berry have Diabetes? .

No, it can only be controlled. There is currently no cure. It is either genetic or age-acquired. Type I is genetic and Insulin-dependent, which is controlled with diet, blood sugar monitoring and insulin injections. Type II is non-insulin dependent, and is the result of age, illness, obesity, or steroid use. It can be controlled with diet alone, but often drugs called "hypoglycemics" are required. If you don't take care of diabetes properly, it can lead to many complications. It is the leading cause of new blindness. I can cause peripheral nerve damage. It can lead to peripheral circulatory problems as well. So if you have it, take care of it. It's not as bad as it seems; It just takes a little effort and self-discipline. You can do it.

I have diabetes and since finding out have lost more than 25 kg and still going. My diabetes is now in control, though at the moment im still on metformin tablets. My blood sugars are at normal levels now but could easy go back if i wasn't watching what i eat or exercising.

Actually there is a cure. Getting a new pancreas through a transplant. Since diabetes is caused by problems with the pancreas (the pancreas doesn't make insulin) getting a transplant would cure diabetes.

They have done this on a few occasions

Other than the transplant, you can live a long healthy life by eating right, taking your medicine, monitoring your BS, and exercise.

No. but there are exercise and diet controlled (type 2) diabetics who don't require medication or injections. Type 1 diabetics don't have any insulin producing cells in there body so require insulin injections.

No it can only be controlled at the moment. Inless you wanna listen to that natural cures guy you see on tv really late at night. He claims he has the cure for it. And that the medical industry is doing some huge cover up. Sounds like something to say to sell books to me though. The only way to take care of it is to eat healthy exercise and take your medication.

Diabetes is not curable. It is treatable. I have several friends and family members with diabetes that live perfectly normal lives. You can't stupid about it. Ignoring it won't make it go away. See the link below.
