I have been asked to cater the desserts for a Valentine party.
I can't decide whether to make a traditonal Red Velvet Cake or authentic Black Forest cake! Time and money are of no issue, but I would like to know what the general preference is.

I don't think you will go wrong with either! I would go for Red Velvet cake.

Why not do little mini cakes and a variety. (I honestly don't know how much more difficult that would be to do miniatures, but wouldn't that be sweet set up on a dessert table on cake stands at different levels.

Good Luck!!

I would have to go with the Red Velvet cake just because I have never heard of a Black Forest cake before.

If there's a Black Forest and a Red Velvet displayed side by side, I'd go for the Black Forest in a flash.

Red Velvet is my absolute favorite cake. However, when I had it at a party a lot of people weren't really enjoying it. I think it's a flavor you either love or hate. I had bought it from a bakery, where it was made really well. . . .I think probably more people like Black Forest.

I really like black forest cake.
I also like chocolate cake.
I love a cool whip frosting with it and so does everyone I serve it to.

Frosting is so simple.
1 large pkg. jello instant pudding mix.
use half the amount of milk
mix well. I use wire whip.
Fold in 1 large or two small cool whip. I like to use the cool whip with the red label. Blue label is good too.
Spread on cooled cake and keep refrigerated.

Pistachio pudding mix is good too.

Ooh, red velvet cake with cream cheese icing! It is red, and so sinfull with that frosting. I have one in the pantry, now I want it! You are a very bad person for reminding me!
Good luck on the catering!
