Diabetes causes damage to blood vessels and thus can seriously increase the risk of a heart attack or a stroke. High blood pressure can be caused by narrowing of the blood vessels and thus may be a symptom that also indicates a higher risk for heart attack, which comes from the cutting off of the blood supply through a major artery to the heart. Also, high blood pressure puts more strain on heart and thus may lead to heart enlargement and finally Congestive Heart Failure.
Thus high blood pressure (hypertension) and Diabetes can increase the risk of heart attack and strokes.

High Blood Pressure and Diabetes and both cause heart attackes. High Blood Pressure make your heart work harder eventually leading to a heart attack. In diabetes your blood thickens and makes it harder for your heart to pump it. This can eventually lead to a heart attack.
