I went to the gyno today, I had a previous abnormal pap, so automatically thinking the worst. I got tested for HPV. I don't really understand how it's transmitted, well I know through sexual activities, but one person has to get it from somewhere. My guy has been with quiet a few women, did he give it to me? He had unprotected sex with most of the women, so he probably got it from one of them, but where did all this originate from?

And condoms are not very effective protection against HPV (genital warts) - that is one of the reasons why so many people have them!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hpvhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hpv A separate group of about 30 HPVs are typically transmitted through sexual contact. Genital HPV infection is very common, with estimates suggesting that
up to 75%
of women
will become infected
with one or more of the
sexually transmitted HPV types
at some point during adulthood
(Baseman and Koutsky, 2005). Some sexually transmitted HPVs, such as types 6 and 11, can cause genital warts. However, most HPV types that infect the genitals tend not to cause noticeable symptoms. Persistent infection with a subset of about a dozen so-called "high-risk" sexually transmitted HPVs, including types 16 and 18, can lead to the development of cancer of the cervix. HPV infection is a necessary factor in the development of nearly all cases of cervical cancer (Walboomers 1999).

One of you got it from a previous partner. It can be asymptomatic for a very long time, so you may have never known.

HPV is just a virus, like the flu, and it's been around longer than we can really guess, since most viruses have been discovered in the last 100 years, though the diseases they're associated with have been around much longer than that. So, trying to trace back to the first case is nearly impossible.

It's just a shot, which feels like every other shot you've gotten in your life. I think donating blood hurts a lot worse than any shot, and I still do that as often as I can, so don't worry, you can take it!
