I have been prescribed Troprol xl 25 mg. I started out on samples from the Dr.'s office. When i went back for my check up the office didint have any more. I was without the med for approx two weeks, My BP spiked to 160/105, I have recieved more med. but now I have constant dizziness and palpations which worsen upon sitting upright. I do feel some mild discomfort in my chest occasionally. Side effects of this med states that it causes dizziness. But should I be worried?

Thing is i dont have high blood pressure.. My BP normally runs in the high end of normal. My Dr. prescribed the Torpol for hand tremors. The tremors have gotten so bad that I have a difficult time eating, cos I cant hold the fork steady. I cant write, and taking digital pics is a disaster.

Don't use the term worried. It is not a productive word and only leads to more problems. With this said, I do think you should be concerned and call your doctor to make sure you are not having any serious side effects from the meds. Also, if you are feeling any chest pain, you need to get to the hospital immediately to make sure you are not having a heart problem. Did you have palpatations, dizziness, or chest pain prior to taking these meds? My mother recently, actually last week, was diagnosed with high BP and was put on this exact same medication. Her blood pressure is back down to almost normal. She does not seem to have any of these negative side effects you are describing. Therefore, I would talk with your primary doctor immediately. Not to worry you, just better safe than sorry. I know you are worried and scared. I am worried about my mom. But, I am telling myself to not worry and instead take action. You need to do the same. Change your diet to a low fat (especially low saturated fat), low cholesterol, and low sodium diet. If you smoke, try to quit or cut back substantially, get at least 20 mins. of brisk walking in everyday, and try to not stress so much. I know this is very hard to do especially when you are scared and anxious, but remember you can overcome this and God loves you. I say this not to sound like a religious nut, because I am not. Rather I say it because faith helps me stay grounded and able to face difficult situations. Lean on your faith, whatever it may be and this will help ground and calm you so you can address what needs addressing. Even though I don't know you, I feel for you and I hope you get better really soon. Go back to see your doctor soon. I hope this helps. God Bless.

I am the same way. There are several at home treatments you can try. I find relaxation techniques such as yoga, breathing exercises stretching can work. Finding a happy place, a fun memory or favorite activity you can think about. For some people music will work, playing a favorite song can alter you mindset. If you feel as though nothing works it is always advisable to go talk to a therapist. There may be something triggering your stress that can be resolved. Good luck.

As I'm not a doctor I can't fully tell you the answer to your question.

What I can suggest is going to sites like WebMD or some other one.

Sideffects of any drugs aren't always neccesarily bad. I would recomend you go to a different doctor for another opinion.

Also do remember quiting could also have a negative side effect.

Sure you should. You could have a stroke. I have the same problem. Loose weight and exercise. Go back to the doctor and get this corrected now!
