I can't say that I can say what causes it, but my Husband had these problems to. But we have solved them. The following are the things we did to fix his.

1. Get a Bottle of Saw Palmetto for prostate care. His is 160 mg. one per day.

2. From a health food store and or grocery get the following.

Unsweetened Cranberry Concentrate. Mix 8 ounces with one gallon of water and drink one 6 to 8 ounce glass before and between all meals. It is an excellent acidic diuretic. It will help heal and clear the urinary problem. If he follows this for a few days, I would think it would clear right up. But then you need to continue to drink some every morning to keep the kidneys healthy.

Presently we have begun drinking Aloe Vera Juice 1/2 cup, Prune Juice 1/2 cup and 1/2 cup of the cranberry drink every morning. I just put them together in one glass. This has corrected our systems so we are doing very well.

We are 65 and this corrected my Hubbys problem in two days.

Try having him take Ibuprofen every 4 hours, it is for inflammation. If the prostate is swollen from inflammation that could also help. But get the Saw Palmetto and the Cranberry for his kidneys. It WILL improve him very quickly.
(Ours are very healthy and we both Peep like race horses)

Good Luck.

well it is normal to have to hypertrophy of prostate, being a part of aging process.
But you better have him checked by a urologist.
There are no established facts only hypothetical cases e.g. testosterones levels are blamed for it etc.
