We have been following this tradition for years....ever since we were dating. We each cook a themed dinner for the other's birthday, but we are running out of themes. We have done Italian, Mexican, Seafood, etc. 2 or 3 times over.

This year I want to do a "7 Deadly Sins" Theme, with each item on the menu named after one of the sins. The 7 sins are:
Pride
Greed
Envy
Wrath
Lust
Gluttony
Sloth

I admit that I stole this idea from "Top Chef" but I'm desperate and it seems fun to me and I think my wife will like it.

So Please help me out with some menu ideas for any or all of the above deadly sins. I want to make 1 alcoholic beverage, 1 salad, 2 apps, 1 entree, and 2 desserts.

Also, 7 items is alot more than I usually make. I usually make 5 items....so if anyone knows of any famous groups of 5...I would appreciate hearing those as well.

Thank You

Ok, you got me totally intrigued. I am having a hard time coming up with foods for the 7 deadly sins, but how about the 7 wonders of the ancient world? Ex. the Hanging Gardens of Babylon could be the salad, the Pyramids of Giza could be a dessert (I've seen pyramid shaped cakes), the library in Alexandria could be a fish dish cooked in parchment...just an idea.

Sloth as an appetizer sounds like Oysters on the Half Shell to me and Pride would also be something quite decadent like a Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail.
Wrath of course should be the name of your alcoholic beverage, something like this Klingon Blood Wine recipe:
Scale ingredients to servings
1 oz Jose Cuervo® Especial gold tequila
1 oz Captain Morgan® Original spiced rum
1 dash grenadine syrup
2 dashes Tabasco® sauce
cranberry juice
Add Tabasco sauce to an ice-filled beer mug/glass. Pour in the tequila, rum and grenadine, and fill with cranberry juice. Shake twice and serve.
A Greedy Caesar Salad
Prime Rib or Lobster would make a great "Envy" entree.
The two desserts should be Chocolate drenched strawberries with whipped cream for "Lust" and Chocolate Fudge Brownies for "Gluttony".

Very cool idea! I can't help you with all of it. But gluttony should surely be the desert. Something that oozes chocolate and caramel. lust could be fruit, like strawberries and homemade whipped cream. Or oysters. Envy, maybe a green salad. For the color and envious bodies that are made by eating salad. And for sloth, a 6 pack of Bud Light (before you break out the champagne, of course). Maybe good caviar for greed. the portions are so small, you have to be greedy to get enough in your belly. Wrath is a toughy, I have not a clue for that one.

I have a menu for you. You can figure what sin goes with what if you like... Some could fit multiple categories.

Ti Punch (drink) Splash of Sugar Cane Syrup, squeeze of 1/2 lime, rhum agricole blanc, stir, add ice and enjoy!

Carrot Ginger Soup (app) could serve in champagne glass no spoon necessary

Baked Brie w/ raspberries (app)

Dual portion Filet and Scallops with Sauteed spinach and lemon cream sauce (entree)

Frisse & Apple Salad w/ champagne vinagrette (salad)

Strawberry Shortcake w/ whipped cream (dessert)

Chocolate Brownie Sundae (dessert)

Envy is usually green so you could do a green salad with green apples or pears. You could also make Green Slime, a drink made from mixing lime serbert, lemon/line soda and vodka. Lust could be one of your dessert as well as Gluttony, Lust as chocolate covered strawberries (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) and Gluttony as something VERY rich. Sloth, umm Sloe Gin Fizzes? Bad pun I know, but...
Or, what is her favorite eatable flower? Pansies, roses, violets? You could add nastursums to a salad, use rose water to flavor a cake, or make pansy julips or mojitos.
Or completely think out side the box. Add vanilla and cinnamon to a savory dish, like maranade for a meat roast, with no sugar and add worchestershire sauce or tabasco to your desert recipe.

I hope I have helped

You can do something with colors or textures...I know "Top Chef" had the Quickfire Challenge where the chefs had to create a dish using only one color, so that might work. As far as textures would go...you could have creamy soup, crunchy skin - for a chicken - and then maybe something whipped, like mousse for dessert.
