Magic Johnson is not "cured" and has never claimed to be cured. Once a person has HIV, he will always be HIV Positive. (At least until a cure *is* found.) It's true that his Viral Load (a measure of the HIV virus in his blood) may be below detectable levels (generally, less than 50 copies per ml) but that does NOT mean he has been cured.

It is true that there is no cure for HIV. Combination treatment of several types of anti-HIV medications can reduce the viral load to a point where it is 'undetectable' (fewer than 50 copies), but it still can be spread to others.

From what I understand, he is sero-negative. That means that the viral count in his blood is so low that it's undetectable. Although there may still be virus in his blood, the chances of him spreading the virus are almost non-existent and he is most likely symptom free as well. Can that change? Yes, if the virus starts replicating again. But for now, he no longer fits the definition of HIV+ or AIDS. He is considered an "non-progressor". Hope that makes sense.

He claims that he's cured. He's been in and out of the hospital ever since he was diagnosed and that was at least 10 yrs ago - I don't even remember when it was because I was so young. He is loaded with money and can basically afford any type of treatment or medication. So he claims that one of his medications, treatments, etc. cured him. A lot of people are skeptical about it though because we've always been told it's incurable.

He has it in remission It will still show up in a medical test, and he used medications. He caught it time and had tons of money to beat it, but it does not mean t it will not come back, there is still no no cure for aids.
