I just came across a local greek restaurant and love their gyros. I was just wondering what the fat content is of a typical gyro sandwich. Not the sauce or anything added to it, simply the meat itself.

It depends on which kind of meat the gyro is made from. Chicken? Pork? lamb? Here in Greece, the typical "gyro mai pita" (gyro roll up) is made with grilled pork unless you ask for something else. The meat is grilled on a rotisserie and the fat drains away from the meat into a pan. All this being said, it should have about the same fat content as any other kind of grilled chicken (low), or grilled pork/lamb (higher). When you add taziki sauce to it, it also adds some fat grams because it is made with yogurt. (don't add cheese to it, that is blasphemy!)
All in all, way less fat than a hamburger, and much better for you overall.

its pretty fattening, when i used to work at a lebanese restaurant, I asked the cook to make me a gyro sandwich, and he, knowing I was on a diet told me to stay away from it... later when a customer ordered the sandwich he showed me how much oil comed out of the meat... it was a lot.

I think it depends on how it's prepared... the meat, usually it's roasted, and mostly lamb if it's authentic, some americanized greek restaurants use beef or a mixture of lamb and beef. I think the meat itself has just as much fat as any other meat. And anything in moderation is fine.

depends if its processed or not. Usually at restraunts the gyro meat is processed. Ask if its fresh beef and lamb. Fresh meat that is cleaned and marinated is alot less fatening and healthier than the processes which is high in fat.
